Everything was going fine while the President was giving his speech today at the Joplin Memorial service until he decided to turn it into a campaign stop. I wasn’t paying much attention to be honest until I jerked my head toward the TV to hear him yelling in that staccato fashion he’s famous for:
“We’re not going anywhere. The cameras may leave! The spotlight may shift! But we will be with you every step of the way until Joplin is restored and this community is back on its feet! We’re not going anywhere!”
You really just have to hear it. I thought it would have been fine if he had just stopped after “As President I can promise you, your country will be with you every single step of the way.” But instead he had to milk it so that the media would fawn all over him for being ‘passionate’ or something. It’s a memorial service, not a campaign stop. But that didn’t stop him from turning it into one.
Despicable.
