This is the speech I wanted to post on Monday but was unable to find a good copy. I know it’s a few days late but it’s worth it.
Allen West began his Memorial day speech by asking “Why are we here today?”. He proceeded to answer that question in two ways, with both answers making me feel a great love for my country. The first answer brings the past to present as he implores us to remember those who have gone before us by telling their stories:
That is why we’re here today, to remember those services, to remember that sacrifice, to tell the stories so that they will never be forgotten and they will live on in each and every one of us.
The second answer ties the past to the future as he says we must remind the little children why they are free to become exceptional people:
We’re here today to make sure that [the little children] know that there have been men and women that have been willing to give of themselves, and it’s not just so they can go to the pool today. It’s not so that they will have a barbecue. It’s not so that they will have a day off from school. It’s so that they will live in a country where they have liberty and freedoms that are unmatched in any other country, in any other nation that the world shall ever know, so that they will know that exceptional men and women gave their lives for an exceptional nation so that one day they could do exceptional things as well.
I can’t think of anyone else who makes me feel more patriotic than I feel when I hear Allen West speak of this great nation.
Enjoy!
