Car repair: Did I get a good deal?

This really isn’t a personal blog, but I’ll admit I’m very curious to hear what you guys think, especially those of you who know your way around a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T GLS. Yeah, that’s my car and it has 120k miles on it.

I just put it in the shop yesterday and paid a lot to get it fixed, but they also did a lot to it. So I’m going to lay it out here and see if you think I got a decent deal or if I got royally screwed. Here’s the details:

Check Engine Light Diagnosis - $80

Full Synthetic Oil Change, Oil Filter - $63

Replace Water Pump, Timing Belt, Tensioners and Rollers, Front Engine Seals, Drive Belt - $859

Replace PCV Valve - $62

Replace Front Brake Pads and Rotors - $489

Mount and Balance Two New Front Tires - $217

Front Well Alignment - $70

That’s the bulk of it, and as you can see that adds up to a lot of money. $1840 to be exact. So did I overpay or did I get a reasonable deal?
