To my surprise, Judge Napolitano engaged me on twitter today after I answered a question he posed. It ended up being a very interesting conversation and I was a little surprised at some of his tweets. Here’s the full conversation:
Note: The icon in each quote is linked to the actual tweet.
Will Newt Gingrich pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee?
@trscoop so you admit you and the rest of the neocons are nothing but rinos? Showing your former democrat Trotskyite clothes?
@Judgenap How am I supposed to support a man who believes its ok if Iran gets a nuke, who believes Hamas is as legitimate as Israel?
@trscoop let me address your points one at a time. It’s not ok if they get a nuke, its that congress must declare war, not job of POTUS
@Judgenap So you believe that Hamas is as legitimate as Israel and that Israel has no right to blockade Gaza? That’s what Paul believes.
@Judgenap and I simply cant go along with that. Hamas is sworn 2 the destruction of Israel. They r nt legitimate even if we pushed elections
@trscoop why put words in peoples mouths? Jingoism does not equal patriotism.
@Judgenap I’m not putting words in his mouth and I can back up that this is what he believes. He said it on your network
@trscoop shouldn’t we be concerned with the State of America?
@Judgenap absolutely we should, but I don’t believe in non-interventionism either. And I do support Israel.
@trscoop well its ok to support another country, but not ok to demand the blood of your fellow Americans for it.
@Judgenap who’s demanding? It’s been a long time since we’ve had a draft. But there are times when intervention is necessary. #holocaust
Note: I’m pretty sure the tweet below was meant for me even though he didn’t put the “@trscoop” in front of it:
My and I believe Paul’s primary concern is with the people of the United States. Thank you for honestly labeling nonintervention at least
@Judgenap The bottom line is I’d probably have no choice but to support him if it were Ron Paul vs Obama. I can’t support Obama at all.
@Judgenap But I really don’t think it’s going to come to that because I simply don’t believe that many people subscribe to his beliefs.
And that’s when I had to stop for dinner. I thought it was interesting and surprising that he threw out the label “neocon” right off the bat and then the “Jingoism does not equal patriotism” shortly thereafter. I typically only hear that from menacing Ron Paul fans.
Ah well, it was a fun conversation and I’m glad he engaged. I’ll let you judge the merits of the conversation but it sounds like to me that the Judge has placed himself firmly in the Ron Paul camp. Which reminds me, I wonder what he thinks about Ron Paul’s newsletters?
