UK Telegraph – Around 20 UN peacekeepers in a Syrian-controlled area of the disputed Golan Heights are held by rebels who claim the UN, the US and President Bashar Al Assad are all “agents of Israel.”
“Rebel fighters detained about 20 UN peacekeepers on Wednesday, according to a UN spokesperson. The detainees are reported to be part of a force that monitors a ceasefire between Israel and Syrian troops in the Golan Heights.
A video posted online by Syrian activists showed a group of armed rebels standing around at least three white UN vehicles with the words UNDOF on them, allegedly in the Syrian village of Jamleh, which borders Israel in Daraa province. In the video, the rebels appear to accuse the peacekeepers of assisting the Syrian regime in redeploying in an area that the fighters had seized a few days earlier.”

In other Syrian news: Rebels siezed the provincial city of Raqqa in northern Syria. As the rebels and civilians were tearing down a statue of Bashar Assad’s father Hafez, a Syrian army mortar team targeted the square where civilians were celebrating. The mortar round fell a little short, but still managed to kill a handful of civilians. Geneva Convention anyone? Nah. That’s for westerners to comply with. Everyone else can do WTF they want to in war.
