A few thoughts on Trump and Erdogan…

The last article I posted about Trump negotiating the release of Aya Hijazi from detention in Egypt has got me thinking.

As you know we’ve been pretty tough on Trump for his rolling out the red carpet to Erdogan, who just thugged his way to victory to get all the power his megalomaniac soul wants via a new constitution in Turkey.

The leader of the Free World congratulating a thug dictator on his victory after he just stole power from his citizens? May it never be!

But it was, and I am starting to wonder if there’s another reason for it.

As you know, there is an American pastor who is falsely imprisoned in Turkey on bogus terrorism charges named Andrew Brunson.

The Trump team does know about him, as Mike Pence just sent a letter to Brunson’s wife:

On the heels of Pastor Andrew Brunson’s wife personal meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson concerning the wrongful imprisonment of her husband, she received a personal letter from Vice President Pence assuring that “Andrew’s case remains a top priority of the U.S. government….”

In the letter, Vice President Pence wrote, “I can assure you both that the State Department and this White House, under President Trump’s leadership, consider Andrew’s release and reunification with you and your three children extremely important.”

Among other things, Vice President Pence stated he has taken a “deep, personal interest” in Pastor Andrew’s freedom and that he will continue to and has “personally discussed [Pastor Andrew’s] detention with senior Turkish officials.”

What if Trump is rolling out the red carpet to Erdogan to keep him buttered up so he can negotiate the release of Brunson?

This is all speculation, as we don’t really know and Trump and his team would never admit such an endeavor.

But if it turns out that Trump does manage to free Brunson as he was able to free Hijazi and that’s why he was quick to congratulate Erdogan, then I’m gonna feel pretty bad for bashing him without considering other issues may be at work here.

Of course if this isn’t the case, then our current commentary stands…
