I am stunned and saddened this morning to write that Noel Sheppard has passed away. Brent Bozell from Newsbusters just announced his passing:

Our Noel Sheppard passed away yesterday (Friday) morning at about 5:00 AM. Say a prayer for the soul of a man we’ll all miss professionally, and many, many of us will miss personally as well. Noel was not just a force of nature, he was a very good man.

How quickly this all happened. Just two months ago, Noel wrote about suddenly getting cancer at 53 called “Cancer’s Ray of Hope.” Nine days ago, he wrote us and said he was interested in writing about his “progress” — and he put “progress” in quotes. We were all wishing for better news, and really couldn’t imagine this was a battle that would end this way.

Noel joined us and was introduced to us by Matt Sheffield at the founding of NewsBusters in 2005, and he became our Associate Editor. It must be said that no blogger here was more prolific and more popular. We’ll have more to say in the coming days.

Requiescat in pace.



Noel was a good friend to me in the blogosphere. He was always kind when I reached out to him and helped me with whatever I needed. We would quite often talk about things over Twitter’s DM, like how to get linked on the Drudge Report. He loved getting his articles linked by Drudge and would often congratulate me whenever I got linked. He was a very gracious man, always wanting the best for TRS.

He first reached out to me in 2010 and since then we’ve been friends. Noel Sheppard will be sorely missed and my prayers are certainly with his family.

RIP Noel. RIP.

  8. I am absolutely devastated! I, too, was close to Noel as we often worked together, and he would often ask me if I had this or that video clip, and I tried to get him everything he needed. He was a true class act, and never ever ran a video of mine WITHOUT giving me a hat tip. Noel was one of a kind, ,and I had no idea he was this ill. What a loving, gracious man he was, and I’ll be talking to him more often now that he’ll be watching over all of us as we continue in his footsteps.

    God bless you, Noel, and please rest now… you deserve it.

  9. I’m really sad to see the loss of what seems like a great guy.
    I wanted to give my condolences at NB, but since I didn’t know him personally and everyone else mirrored my thoughts, I just found myself up-voting like crazy.
    Take care of yourself RS. I can’t handle losing more good people here.

  11. I read about his diagnosis one night while perusing Memeorandum several weeks ago. It was a surprise to me then. This is even more of a surprise, because I thought he had more time.

    Of course, I keep thinking we all have more time.
    (One nice thing about aging is that you eventually reach a point where you realize that it’s a good thing you don’t have to live with age-related problems forever.)

    He’ll be missed. He was a decent writer for NewsBusters, and I linked a lot of comments to his posts there.

    1. I saw their article about his illness at the end of January, I believe. They’re part of my daily reading, so I’ve actively thought of him daily when checking there. I had hoped to see good news about his success overcoming the disease, but today’s announcement ends that hope.
      He seemed like a really cool and insightful guy.
      It’s all another tragic loss, and I’d really like to not see more.

      1. I often struggle with those. I don’t do prayer very often. It’s more like an ongoing conversation:
        “…I know, but I was angry. All right, I’ll handle it better next time. You know I’m not exactly Mr. Perfect.”

        Stuff like that.

        I think of simply asking God to be “with” someone, and try not to dissuade God from whatever He has in mind. So I guess I’m not exactly the best person to ask for prayers from.

        1. I understand. I often have an ongoing conversation too, and while I know He knows that I hope folks can be healed or made well, He also knows that I know it doesn’t always happen the way we want it to. 🙁

  13. He was one of my favorites on Newsbusters. It’s good to know that he was encouraging of Right Scoop and other conservative voices.

  27. For every life there is a purpose and Noel Sheppard served his purpose nobly and courageously. His works capture our attention and made a difference. RIP…Mr. Sheppard. You fought the good fight!

  32. So very sad, my prayers are with his family. We lost one of the best and there will be no one to replace him. My thoughts are with you too Scoop, I am sorry for your loss.

      1. I don’t know (too much for my little brain to ponder); what I do know is that I don’t seem to miss the bad guys.

        1. I’m afraid I might start celebrating the loss of the bad guys. Right now I just don’t miss them.

        1. Just making the point that Noel seemed to be the antithesis of evil, so it does indeed make it a very premature loss for us all to lose him.

  36. Oh my gosh.. How horrible and sad. I remember reading his writing, and loved how he laced it with sarcasm and wit usually against liberals hypocrisy. Prayers to his friends and family.
