BREAKING: Covington Catholic High School CLOSES, says students are “not to be on campus for any reason”

This ridiculous controversy has now led to Covington Catholic High School closing the school today, telling students, faculty and staff that they are not to be on campus for any reason:

WLWT – Officials have canceled school and activities for students at Covington Catholic High School Tuesday, citing safety concerns.

The decision was announced in a school-wide call to parents from Covington Catholic Principal Bob Rowe.

Rowe said the decision comes after meeting with local authorities about the safety of students, faculty and staff following a controversy surrounding video showing the students in an encounter with Native Americans at a rally near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Rowe said all activities on campus for the entire day have also been canceled and students, faculty and staff are “not to be on campus for any reason.”

Rowe ended the call asking parents to “keep the Covington Catholic Community in your prayers.”

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders said law enforcement and school officials said they have a plan in place to keep students safe when they return, but they’re not releasing any more details.

Here’s the full statement from the school principal:

Posobiec also tweets that Covington Catholic parents are pulling their children out of next week’s Catholic confirmation ceremony unless the Bishop of the Diocese apologizes for his initial statement condemning the students:

The Bishop did jump the gun, issuing this statement during the weekend:

“We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person. The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion. We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our most sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and all those who support the pro-life movement.”

As of yesterday that statement was reportedly still on the website. I checked this morning and the website is completely down.
