CA residents told to EVACUATE as Oroville Dam is expected to FAIL [updated]

Residents are being told to evacuate from around the Oroville Dam in California after too much rain is expected to make an auxiliary spillway fail.

From CBS Sacramento:

The Butte County Sheriff’s Department has issued an evacuation notice for the low levels of Oroville and areas downstream from the Oroville Dam.

The emergency spillway is eroding which could lead to a failure of the structure sending an uncontrolled release of flood water from Lake Oroville

The Feather river will experience a rapid rise in water level affecting surrounding areas as the main spillway releases are increased to 100,000 cfs from the current 55,000 cfs. We have a crew on the way to the Dam.

Oroville is the highest dam in the United States at 770 feet high, and impounds the 2nd largest man-made lake in California.

Let’s hope no one gets hurt.
