Sherry Barnett in Rockingham County, who admitted that they teach about ‘systemic racism’ and ‘social justice’, explains that it’s all about wording: “We haven’t had any major complaints about what’s being taught… Yes it’s wording. Yeah. Because, in this area, if you say ‘privilege’ it does immediately give some people that negative feeling.”
When asked why the ‘tiki torch crowd’ hasn’t come for them, she responds “I think it’s about wording…”
Barnett added that they went through it a few years ago with parents and that now they “are very careful with wording”.
