The media is absolutely loving that the reported numbers of coronavirus cases in the United States have now blown past those in China:
JUST IN: The U.S. now has the most reported coronavirus cases in the world, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Confirmed coronavirus cases by the numbers, as of 6 p.m. EST:
🇺🇸 U.S. – 82,404
🇨🇳 China – 81,782
🇮🇹 Italy – 80,589— NPR (@NPR) March 26, 2020
There are a ton of people on social media using this horrible news to dunk on Trump right now. But what they are ignoring, of course, in their zeal to damage the president, is that China is absolutely not trustworthy at all, especially about this.
They’ve already lied about the pandemic when it first began, and they continue to lie about it now. Why should we trust their numbers at all? The answer is, we shouldn’t.
However, and this is important, I’m not saying that we ignore the crisis, or downplay it, or pretend it’s not happening, just because China may be lying about their coronavirus numbers. It is still a big deal, and we should all treat it seriously.
