Today is a big day in Georgia as legislators work to pass what many are calling a ‘controversial’ abortion bill. But all the bill does is keep taxpayers from paying for abortions via the new health care law by preventing plans that are subsidized by the state and federal government from covering abortions, just as the Hyde amendment has always done on the federal level since 1976.
Democrats, however, are labeling this the ‘war on women’ and several protested with coat hangers today in the well of the Senate:
How despicable. The bill doesn’t prevent abortions, it just prevents taxpayers from funding it.
Mike Griffin from Georgia Right to Life says in another CBS 46 report that this ban is permitted under the Affordable Care Act and thus if it were challenged in court it would not be a constitutional challenge.
