EU removes Hamas from terror list; US responds

Unbelievably idiotic. As if one needed more proof than the very charter of Hamas and the war Israel just fought against Hamas defending itself from a flood of rockets:

INN – Hamas, in both its military and governmental branches, has been temporarily removed from the European Union’s list of proscribed terrorist groups as the result of a technical legal blunder.

After Hamas filed an appeal against its terrorist list standing, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg published its decision on Wednesday, with Hamas being removed due to claims that the group’s inclusion in the list was against EU procedures and without sufficient evidence.

The court said in a statement that Hamas’s inclusion was based on “factual imputations derived from the press and the Internet” as opposed to sound legal judgments. But it stressed that Wednesday’s decision to remove Hamas was based on technical grounds and does “not imply any substantive assessment of the question of the classification of Hamas as a terrorist group.”

The lawyer for Hamas, Liliane Glock, told AFP she was “satisfied with the decision”.

Hamas just reaffirmed their pledge to destroy Israel while celebrating their 27th anniversary. Does this court have their freaking eyes closed?

Thankfully the US responded to this decision appropriately:

“The EU should maintain terrorism sanctions on Hamas,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, adding that the United States was studying a ruling by an EU court ordering that the Palestinian terrorist group be removed from an EU blacklist. “The US position on Hamas has not changed; Hamas is a designated foreign terrorist organization.”

“Hamas continues to engage in terrorist activity and has demonstrated its intentions during this summer’s conflicts with Israel,” Psaki added. “It fired thousands of rockets into Israeli civilian areas and attempted to infiltrate Israel through tunnels that extended into Israel.”
