General McChrystal summoned home to explain Rolling Stone article – UPDATE: Rolling Stone Article released

Well, here’s your story of the week:

Wow. This is really big. There will be many who on one hand will sympathize with McChrystal because of the feeling that he’s been tossed in a war that he can’t win, given the strategy employed. But on the other hand, this seems like something you just don’t do, especially given some of the very honest, blunt, and unprofessional quotes coming from the Rolling Stone article (which hasn’t been released yet). This will end up reflecting poorly on everyone involved, especially the General and the Command-in-Chief.

I’m not sure how this will play in the end. My gut feeling is that McChyrstal will be reassigned and a new General will be picked to lead the Afghan effort. It’s hard to say at this point in the endeavor, given that we are only a year away from beginning the process of potential withdrawal from Afghanistan. Sounds like he’d be hard to replace at this point.

I’ll keep you updated.
