Gruber: I honestly do not recall

Rep. Michael Turner questioned Gruber today on his past statements after Gruber apologized for them in his opening statement, suggesting he was conjecturing inappropriately at times. Turner decided to stick with the substantive comments Gruber has made and sought to make sure that Gruber wasn’t there to completely recant his previous quotes. Gruber said he was there to better explain the context around his comments.

But when it came down to Gruber’s comments that the bill was written in a ‘tortured’ way and whether or not someone from the administration spoke to him about writing it this way in order to keep the CBO from claim the mandate was not a tax, Gruber claimed he didn’t remember, saying “I honestly do not recall”.
