Donald Trump was asked by a reporter to comment on whether he supports Kevin McCarthy remaining speaker of the House.
Trump suggested it’s too early to weigh in and then said something very Trumpian: “He said very nice things this morning about me…”.
Watch below:
Trump says he doesn’t want to discuss holding McCarthy accountable for a year of failure, because “he said very nice things about me this morning.” Nothing gets in the way of the ego, plebes. pic.twitter.com/TKEGytEJrs

If Trump had just said he didn’t want to weigh in because he thinks it is too early, then I don’t think this would be a story. One could argue that McCarthy is through nearly half of his term as speaker and that is has been long enough, but that’s still a subjective argument.
But then Trump throws in the line “he said very nice things this morning about me”, which just reinforces the fact that Trump can be had for a single complement.
‘Oh Scoop, you’re making too much out of this innocuous comment.’ Yeah? Think of it in reverse. If McCarthy had come out and said something not so nice about Trump, do you really think Trump would have answered the same way? Not on your life. We all know Trump would have brought the fire down upon McCarthy’s head.
