Hurricane Florence COMETH and here’s what we know…

With Hurricane Florence churning off the coast of the Carolinas right as its imminent landfall fast approaches, it’s time for a hurricane open thread!

As of right now, Florence is a category 2 hurricane and it’s expected to stay that way until landfall late tonight and in the morning:

A more detailed look at the Hurricane track shows landfall at Wilmington with the eye then going through South Carolina before heading north:

The eye makes landfall, according to this map, at 8am tomorrow morning.

 
If you haven’t yet, you should check out NOAA’s GOES East image viewer of the hurricane. There are brilliant images like this one on the first GeoColor links:

This is a relatively small one. They get much bigger and more awesome (that’s where the thumb came from at the top of the post). Do it during the daytime so you can see the visible satellite. The infrared one at night isn’t nearly as impressive.
