Jerry Falwell Jr. continued to demonstrate his slavish allegiance to President-elect Donald Trump when he said that it didn’t matter to him that Exxon-Mobil donated to Planned Parenthood under Rex Tillerson, in addition to other leftist social values.
Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. defended his support of Rex Tillerson, Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, saying he didn’t think the former ExxonMobil executive “will ever have to weigh in on any of those issues.”
“His position on social issues I don’t believe are relevant in the position of secretary of state,” Falwell said on “Fox News Sunday.” “I don’t think he’ll ever have to weigh in on any of those issues. I think he’s going to be out cutting deals like he did as the CEO of a global enterprise with Exxon.”
Tillerson has come under criticism from evangelicals for opposing a ban that kept young gay men from joining the Boy Scouts, as well as donations ExxonMobil has made to Planned Parenthood.
Falwell says this will never come up as Secretary of State, but that’s 100% false. Abortion has often been a negotiating issue when talking to other states, and so will LGBT issues, but it’s easier for Falwell to obscure the truth than it is for him to admit he just doesn’t care.
