John Bolton explains why it was stupid for Hillary’s State Dept. not to label Boko Haram a foreign terrorist org

John Bolton says labeling a group a foreign terrorist organization increases the things you can do regarding that group, whether it has to do with intelligence, economic sanctions, or even aiding the government of Nigeria.

He’s also not buying Hillary’s claim as to why her State Dept. didn’t label the group as a foreign terrorist organization:

Let me just say, this is a statutory definition. It’s not ‘I don’t like these guys‘. They have to be foreign, they have to be engaged in terrorism as defined elsewhere in the statute, and they have to be an organization that is a threat to America.

So when people say ‘we didn’t want to give them legitimacy‘ or ‘we didn’t want to build them up‘, that’s not one of the statutory criteria.
