Keurig is apparently reeling from all the social media backlash they’ve received as a result of their tweet the other day that stated they were discontinuing their ads on Hannity’s show. Here’s their original tweet:
Donna, thank you for your concern and for bringing this to our attention. We worked with our media partner and FOX news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show.
— Keurig (@Keurig) November 11, 2017
There were other tweets like this as well.
As Ben Shapiro notes, Keurig’s “advertising pullout came in the wake of an astroturfed campaign from Media Matters based on false allegations that Hannity expressed support for child molestation and had attacked sexual assault accusers.”
Now many smashed Keurig machines later, the CEO of Keurig Bob Gamgort has sent a memo to employees condemning the company’s announcement that they were discontinuing their advertising:
Gamgort is certainly more upset that his employees announced the decision on Twitter than he is that his company discontinued their advertising. Which is probably why he’s not making any announcement about whether or not they are returning their advertising to Hannity’s show.
Either way, Keurig has clearly felt the effect of this ‘boycott’ and likely won’t make the mistake again of letting social media users know what they are doing with their advertising.
Hannity responded this way to their announcement:
Hold on to your coffee machines @keurig has recognized it got caught up & misled by a bigot. Still giving away coffee machines, which brand has yet to be determined. Stay tuned. https://t.co/Af1FUCa3Br
