Never Trumper Rich Lowry told Morning Joe today that he’s been wrong about two things with respect to Trump and how he would be as president in his first year.
He explains below:
This is the dichotomy of Trump.
Lowry is right to point out that Trump has pushed mostly a conventional Republican agenda, something he didn’t necessarily see coming. But on the flip side, he’s also right about Trump not moderating his character flaws, which is the subject of much angst in this country. I agree with him that I thought he’d do more of than as well – remember the Greta interview where Trump said he’d become more presidential “very rapidly”?
Yes, I do love Trump’s Republican agenda for the most part (even though I’m still sick about Obamacare not getting repealed, but that’s mostly not his fault). But when it comes to his immature personality flaws that we see almost every day, it makes me want to pull my hair out and root for Mike Pence as president.
At the end of the day, however, we can’t ignore Trump’s greatest achievement to date: keeping Hillary out of the White House. As much trouble as Trump seems to be with regard to his childish and incessant tweeting, I’m still very glad he won and don’t regret voting for him. The fact that he’s pushing a mostly Republican agenda makes it much easier to deal with the bad stuff he brings to the presidency.
