NEW: Trump explains to Washington Post WHY he opposes White House aids testifying before Congress…

We just reported to you that the White House is going to fight the subpoena for Don McGahn to testify before the White House Judiciary Committee.

Tonight Trump did an interview with the Washington Post, where he explained to them why he doesn’t want current and former White House aides testifying before Congress:

WASHINGTON POST – President Trump on Tuesday said he is opposed to current and former White House aides providing testimony to congressional panels in the wake of the special counsel report, intensifying a power struggle between his administration and House Democrats.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Trump said that complying with congressional requests was unnecessary after the White House cooperated with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s probe of Russian interference and the president’s own conduct in office.

“There is no reason to go any further, and especially in Congress where it’s very partisan — obviously very partisan,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments came as the White House made it clear that it plans to broadly defy requests for information from Capitol Hill, moving the two branches of government closer to a constitutional collision.

After two years of the Mueller report, I really can’t blame Trump for his reasoning.

Trump cooperated fully with the investigation, turning over tons of paper work and providing his aides to be interview by Muller. He even answered questions from the special counsel after refusing to do an interview.

And not once did he ever use executive privilege to hide anything from the Mueller team or the public.

He’s also right to point out the hyper-partisanship in the House right now. Democrats have left no doubt that they intend to use their resources to destroy Trump, one way or the other.

So yeah, I don’t have any issues with this logic here. This is war and it sounds like he has the right mindset.
