Obama’s new strategy: I will defeat ISIL with a strong message

Obama told this to NPR’s Steve Inskeep this weekend about the fight with ISIS:

NPR – But ISIL is also not the Soviet Union. And I think that it is very important for us to understand this is a serious challenge. ISIS is a virulent, nasty organization that has gained a foothold in ungoverned spaces effectively in Syria and parts of western Iraq.

We have to take it seriously. They’ve shown in Paris what they can do in an organized fashion, and in San Bernardino what we’ve seen is their ability to proselytize for their perverted brand of Islam and spur small-scale terrorist attacks. And those are very difficult to detect, so it is going to be important for us to be vigilant. We are pounding ISIL’s core structure in Syria and Iraq. We have put together a coalition that is increasingly effective. We have seen ISIL lose about 40 percent of its populated territory in the region, and both in terms of homeland security and in terms of our efforts over there, I am confident that we are going to prevail.

But it is also important for us to keep things in perspective, and this is not an organization that can destroy the United States. This is not a huge industrial power that can pose great risks to us institutionally or in a systematic way. But they can hurt us, and they can hurt our people and our families. And so I understand why people are worried.

The most damage they can do, though, is if they start changing how we live and what our values are, and part of my message over the next 14 months or 13 months that I remain in office is to just make sure that we remember who we are and make sure that our resilience, our values, our unity are maintained. If we do that then ISIL will be defeated.

Ok first, we know who we are and we don’t need for Obama to remind us of this, especially when he is more interested in ‘fundamentally transforming’ the US and destroying our country from within.

Secondly, I think people know that ISIS is a terrorist organization and isn’t an industrial power that can drop nukes on us from air and destroy the United States. That’s just another Obama straw man. What we do know, however, is that ISIS is a very serious threat to the American people that Obama’s policies are only enabling.

But even more than that for Obama to tell us that ISIS will be defeated if we just remember who we are or something…well it sounds like a big joke.

I get that we don’t want the terrorist to win by changing the way we live, but Obama’s words are empty. It might be different if we knew he was actually trying to destroy ISIS by pounding the hell out of them instead of dilly-dallying with them. It might be different if ISIS were only a fraction of the size they were in 2014 because Obama’s strategy was working. But Obama’s strategy isn’t working and he refuses to do what is necessary to destroy them.

The bottom line is ISIS lives because Obama won’t destroy them and it’s just a matter of time before they hit us again just like they did in San Bernardino, or much worse. And there’s a good chance it will happen via these Syrian refugees he’s bringing into the country.

Look, a message about our resilience, our values and our unity is great and all. But the ISIS message to jihadis everywhere to attack and kill us by any means necessary is a huge threat and it will only be stopped if we actually destroy them. And clearly that’s not part of Obama’s strategy.
