Putin THREATENS NATO Member Turkey, Calls Nation ‘Accomplices of Terror’

As we reported early this morning, a Russian plane was shot down by Turkish fighter jets Tuesday near the border with Syria, an incident that is causing great waves in both the ISIS conflict and the geopolitical relationship between Syria/Russia and the United States/NATO forces in the region.

Adding to the mess, Vladimir Putin, whom Sen. Marco Rubio called a “gangster” again on Fox News just minutes ago, threatened our NATO ally Turkey over the incident. Putin called Turkey “accomplices” of terrorists and suggested that they want NATO to work with for money and oil. He warned that Turkey could face “serious consequences.”

From the Guardian:

The Russian president, speaking before a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Sochi, said the plane had been shot down over Syrian airspace and fell 4km inside Syria. Putin said it was “obvious” the plane posed no threat to Turkey.

“Our military is doing heroic work against terrorism … But the loss today is a stab in the back, carried out by the accomplices of terrorists. I can’t describe it in any other way,” he said. Putin suggested the Turks were shielding Islamic State terrorists from Russian attacks, saying: “Do they want to make NATO serve Isis?”

Reports from within Russia indicate that Puting gave a national address promising “significant consequences including for relations between Russia and Turkey.”
