As it turns out, the scumbag who tried to kill American citizens this morning in New York City made use of an immigration policy that Trump had been demanding we end: chain migration.

Basically, chain migration is when the family members of a legal immigrant are also granted legal status based on his claim – thus the “chain” of migration from one legal immigrant.
And that’s how this guy got into the country:
.@DHSgov can confirm that the suspect was admitted to the United States after presenting a passport displaying an F43 family immigrant visa in 2011. The suspect is a Lawful Permanent Resident from Bangladesh who benefited from extended family chain migration.

But there’s a problem here with the timeline – he got in the country in 2011. Trump has only recently advocated the ending of these policies. He’d have had to travel back in time to prevent this attack. And that means we’re facing the possibility of many more Akayed Ullahs in the intervening years.
Now, that doesn’t mean Trump’s policies aren’t wise, it just means that it would not actually prevent Ullah’s attack had the president been able to institute everything he wanted immediately…
