Secret recording of Nunes reveals WHY the House chose not to impeach Rosenstein

Nunes was captured on a secret recording during a fundraiser for Cathy McMorris Rodgers. It was a closed-door event, but a progressive group managed to get the recording and released it last night on Maddow’s show.

In the recording, Nunes explains why conservative Republicans ultimately decided to ditch the impeachment of Rosenstein:

NEW YORK POST – During the fundraiser, Nunes also said conservative Republicans decided to table the idea of impeaching deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who’s overseeing the Mueller probe, because it could endanger the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Nunes said, “It’s a bit complicated” because “we only have so many months left, right?”

“So if we actually vote to impeach, okay, what that does is that triggers the Senate then has to take it up,” Nunes told the supporters. “Do you want them to drop everything and not confirm the Supreme Court justice, the new Supreme Court justice?”

While Nunes said he supports the impeachment or Rosenstein, the timing was the problem.

Nunes also suggested that the House Republicans keeping the majority is the only thing protecting the president:

“If [Attorney General Jeff] Sessions won’t unrecuse and Mueller won’t clear the president, we’re the only ones,” Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said at a private fund-raiser on July 30, NBC News reported on Wednesday.

“Which is really the danger. … I mean we have to keep all these seats,” he continued. “We have to keep the majority. If we do not keep the majority, all of this goes away.”

He’s probably right about that. Democrats would love nothing more than to impeach Trump and they’d do it in a heartbeat.

A spokesperson for Nunes responded to what he said on the secret recordings, by saying they are “sensible ideas”.
