At today’s State Department press briefing, Secretary Pompeo was asked about John Kerry’s ‘illegal’ meetings with Iran in an attempt to undermine US policy and Trump’s tweet about it last night.
First, Kerry admitted this week that he has met with Iran and has told them to ‘wait out’ President Trump:
In a radio interview this week to promote a new book, Kerry said he had met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif “three or four times” since leaving office and that their discussions included the nuclear deal that Trump has since scrapped.
Kerry said such meetings are appropriate, later explaining during a television interview on Fox News that “every secretary of state, former secretary of state continues to meet with foreign leaders, goes to security conferences, goes around the world.”
“I think everybody in the world is talking about waiting out President Trump,” said Kerry, a former senator from Massachusetts who was the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee.
Trump responded to this last night on Twitter:
John Kerry had illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people. He told them to wait out the Trump Administration! Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!

A short while ago Pompeo also responded by saying that you will not find any precedent for this in American history and that “actively undermining U.S. Policy as a former Secretary of State is literally unheard of… ”
Pompeo called what Kerry is doing ‘unseemly’ and ‘beyond inappropriate’, adding that he ought not engage in that kind of behavior.
And I couldn’t agree more.
You’d also think the media would care about this story, as this isn’t the first time Kerry’s admitted this. They were all over Trump about phone calls from his administration-elect to foreign ambassadors before he actually took office. But they don’t give a rip about Kerry undermining US foreign policy. In fact they are probably hoping he succeeds.
