SUNDAY MATINEE: Why the Apostles understood that Jesus was beginning the Eucharist at Passover

Earlier this year I wrote about how we see the Eucharist in the book of Daniel as it relates to end times Bible Prophecy.

But more recently I’ve been wondering about the ties to the Eucharist in the Old Testament sacrifices. Last night I happened upon an incredible video by Dr. Brant Pitre, a professor at Notre Dame seminary, who explains in detail the Jewish roots of the Eucharist.

It’s just over an hour long but I cannot recommend this video highly enough. It blew my mind. In it Pitre explains why the Apostles would have understood that Jesus was beginning the Eucharist at the Passover before His death…and it has everything to do with their Jewish faith.

I understand that not everyone here may believe that the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ, and I get that. I didn’t either up until recently, but I also didn’t understand it. So I’d challenge those of you who have doubts to watch it. It may change your mind, but at the very worst you’ll have a better understanding of why the Church maintains that Christ began the Eucharist at the Last Supper.

I understand that people can be passionate about this topic, so I would only ask that whether you agree or disagree with Pitre, that you would keep it classy so that it doesn’t get ugly in the comments.
