THIS IS NOT A JOKE: Veterans are DYING while waiting for care on VA hospital’s SECRET LIST

I just watched this CNN report and honestly, I can’t yet summon the words to appropriately express my outrage. CNN is reporting that Veterans on a secret VA list have DIED while waiting for care at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

This secret list, according to a retired VA doctor, has the names of between 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans who are waiting months and months for care. The waiting times are so long that some of them are dying, and when that happens, their names are simply removed from the secret list and no one ever knows that person was even scheduled for an appointment.

If, however, a veteran gets within two weeks of their appointment, their name is moved to another list which is available to the public. This list is nothing more than a facade created to make the VA look good, as if everything is going splendidly.

In the report below, CNN interviews a family whose 71-year-old father died last year while waiting for care. Even after being designated as an urgent case, it was still almost four months before the VA called and said they could see him. By that point he had died of Stage 4 bladder cancer. His name was Thomas Breen and he was a Navy veteran.

This is just so outrageous and I can’t believe it’s happening in America.

VA sucks. Last time I went there was to visit an uncle. WW2 vet. Spent an hour looking for him. Finally found him on a gurney in a dark hallway. He was not getting any care at all.

I’ve been with VA foir over a year and I have received nothing but the best care, the best referrals and the friendliest and most professional treatment ever. The VA Health program is tremendous! I can’t figure our where these reports are coming from. I’d get a grain of salt and keep it handy.

Ft. Harrison, in Montana, took EXCELLENT care of my dad. For years they treated him exceptionally well… I think they liked the ole codger.

As for me… I have some wrist and knee problems that have happened over the years and they (the Alaskan VA) wouldn’t even make an appointment to see me.

This is how single-payer healthcare and death panels work. They won’t call them “death panels.” They’ll call them “waiting lists.” Or they will simply deny treatments because they deem them “experimental.” That’s how costs will be managed. Letting people die at home waiting for an appointment saves a lot of money that can then be used for employee bonuses and better pensions. When government runs healthcare and is also compiling the statistics, they can do all kinds of tricks to hide the truth. Using “secret lists” to make it look like no one waits more than two weeks is just the beginning of what a government monopoly will do. Overhead costs will skyrocket because healthcare will be run for the employee union in the same way public schools today are run for the teachers union. That’s why waiting lists will only get longer no matter how much money goes into… Read more »

Anybody who wants to know how Obamacare is going to work, needs only to try to make a VA Hospital Appt. :-{
The rank and file workers in the hospitals aren’t the problem. More and more work is being piled on them every day. Even they will admit that the ‘administration’ is a damn disgrace (if nobody is listening). wink

If they have to do it in the dark, they know it is wrong. The left does everything in the dark it can, especially in the voting booths.
Our vets deserve to be treated decently.

Freedom, dang it. Quit it. You honor me way too much my friend. I’m just one person with an opinion on a lot of things- too opinionated more often than not, speaking about most things that I’ve not got a personal experience with.
There are so many others who speak better, and know of what they speak. But thank you always for your kind and encouraging words. You are an incredible friend and I’m blessed by you.

When I first read this (earlier this morning) it set my blood boiling (not that feel much calmer about it now). I can’t imagine what this man and his family endured. The fact that he was there for us makes it all that much worse (to me). I hope that this family (and others so blatantly ignored) have the names of those they dealt with and make each and everyone of them pay (in some way, shape or form) personally for being irresponsible.

No this isn’t a joke and this is the end result of letting Clinton and Obama gut the military. They wanted to use a scalpel on entitlements and an ax on military and that is exactly what has happened.

Why anyone joins our military any longer is beyond me…and why should they join in the future? The military is the politicians Lucy and the football scenario. It’s absurd.

It’s of little wonder to me we don’t keep our word to our allies since we don’t even keep our word to our own.

Well said, Laurel.
All I see on Yahoo’s homepage is Clinton, Clinton, Clinton, they are pushing her candidacy all day every day. The left are so brain dead and I’m quite sick of having to pay the price for their stupidity.
Put another leftist hack in office and there will be no more U.S, military left to defend this nation. But, that’s their point.
What they are doing to these men and women is only par for their course. Sickening louts.

Oh why should we worry? Under the “Affordable Care Act” (Obamacare) we’ll all be treated like this or worse. No problem though as long as our Executive and Legislative branches of government get great immediate care for them and their family and friends. The example of lies especially from the Executive branch (President) will be what the VA and the rest of our government will follow.

He’s trying to economically bring us to our knees as quickly as possible so the country cries out for relief and he can bring in another system of governance, just like all other tyrant dictators throughout history.

I don’t know where to begin. My father was a WW II vet and entitled to use the VA’s health care at their hospitals. He suffered a massive stroke about 25 years ago. I have no doubt if he was sent to a VA hospital, he would have died then instead of living another 12 years. Also, who can forget the scandal at Walter Reed (WR) hospital in 2007? Granted, Walter Reed was an Army hospital not run by the VA, but it was always considered to be the best surgical hospital among military facilities in the nation. It was blocks away from the WH and Congress. Soldiers Face Neglect, Frustration At Army’s Top Medical Facility http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/17/AR2007021701172.html “The common perception of Walter Reed is of a surgical hospital that shines as the crown jewel of military medicine. I had to have multiple knee surgeries when in the service and thought ‘why would anyone want government run healthcare.’ It was bad and I was considered a priority patient because I was active duty and needed the surgeries in between deployments. Sadly there is a pecking order. This is a sad byproduct of socialized medicine.

My condolences my friend. You might be surprised to know how many of my friends needed knee surgery too. Each of them had a long (about 6″), prominent scar over their knee caps… While overall, I had no serious problems with my military healthcare, I feel blessed and like an exception based on what my buddies suffered through… it wasn’t always positive. I wish you the best.

My best friend’s father (81 year old) has been under VA care for heart and other debilitating ailments for some time. He almost died several weeks ago at home. He was rushed to a private hospital, and not only did they save his life, the team of doctors that cared for him came straight out and said that the VA was killing him. He is now making a great recovery in the matter of a couple weeks.

To those of us who have dealt with the VA, Scoop….none of this is a surprise. My father was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Navy. Both he and my uncle served on the same ship and both of them developed mesothelioma from the asbestos exposure in the boiler rooms where they worked. My family had to fight tooth and nail to get the VA to give them their benefits that they earned! My uncle died 2 months BEFORE the VA finally came through with the benefits! My father got his benefit for about 4 months while he was still alive. Appointments would be dropped by the VA without notice. This is the standard operative procedure of government healthcare…drag your feet and hope they die before we have to make good on caring for the servicemen and women the way we promised. Take a good… Read more »

For anyone who hasn’t used the V.A. Hospital for medical services. I started having severe pain in my shoulder. (it is being called Tendonitis) I went to my chiropractor to get some relief, but relief never came. I called the medical hot line and was told, because of the symptoms I was experiencing, I should go to the emergency room. I went to the V.A. hospital, and as a courtesy stopped by my primary care giver, and was told that I would sign in there instead of going to the emergency room and would wait for someone to see me there instead. I never saw my doctor, or any doctor for that matter; instead I seen a Physician Assistant. It has been two weeks, since I went, I am still in pain, and even though I have called for a follow up, I haven’t talked to a doctor yet. If… Read more »

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said “We have to pass the bill to find out what’s in the bill?” They knew what was in it, they knew the massive cuts hidden in it, they knew all the new taxes in it, and they knew how many people would be hurt by the bill. That is exactly why secret closed door deals were done to get it passed. The ACA or O’ Liar Care was designed to make the rich richer, the poor poorer and the illegal aliens to vote for the Demoncrat party.

sDee

Sadly I am not surprised. It is happening under Medicare and Medicaid too. It is coming rapidly under Obamacare.

We had to get out of Medicaid services where we saw government social workers bending over backwards to provide care for the anchor babies and their illegal parents, knowing care of veterans and legal citizens was being cut. We saw the dark ugly side of Government healthcare. We could not be part of it anymore.

The government regulations, reimbursements and its partnerships with large “private” hospital systems now puts anyone’s job at risk if they complain, speak out, or refuse to compromise care. But I hope more doctors and nurses can find a way to start speaking out.

The last time I looked wasn’t John McCain supposed to have everything under control in the State of Arizona. He’s absolutely “Useless”. He doesn’t seem to practice what he preaches. John McCain has the best Healthcare while many Veterans suffer on a daily basis. I think the people of Arizona better start digging deeper as far as replacements go. This is a “Tragedy” and it’s of ‘No Concern” to any “Politician” because they just “Don’t Care”. To the Democrat Party well, the “Quicker” these “Patriotic Veterans” die off, the “Quicker” they can be replaced with “Illegal Immigrants” who have done absolutely “Nothing” for this Country but “Bleed” the hell out of it. Plus they’re good for a “Democrat Vote” which is exactly what the “Democrat Party/Politicians” want. Out with “Educated” in with the “Uneducated”.

American Duckie

This is not new. It’s a national disgrace that’s been going on a long time. The government has to make the VA look good, as it’s a model for national ‘health care’.

Not saying that every local VA stucks, I know some who say they’ve always recieved good care, but know a lot, especially older Veterans with mutliple health problems who don’t. Especially when it comes to things like Agent Orange or PTSD.

Our veterans and returning troops have always been put at the back of the line when it comes to benefits and care. Illegals come first, criminals come first, politicians come first.

They’re used to fighting, so why make it different by not having them to have to fight when they come home. This is one thing I’ve not appreciated about our country, is the treatment of those who fight and fought for her.
