Tim Allen on Talking Trump in Hollywood: ‘This is Like 30s Germany’

Comedian and actor Tim Allen appeared on late night TV this week and talked about what it’s like discussing politics and Trump in Hollywood. Speaking on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday, he compared it Germany in the 1930s.

The Washington Times reports:

Mr. Allen mentioned that he attended President Trump’s inauguration and then immediately tried to justify his attendance by saying he went to see Democrats and Republicans.

“I’m not attacking you!” Mr. Kimmel assured the comedian.

“In this town?” Mr. Allen responded. “I’m not kidding. You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.

“This is like ‘30s Germany,” he said. “I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ‘You know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that.’

“I’m a comedian, I like going [off] on both sides,” he added.

The tone was light and they chuckled, but he obviously also means what he is saying. Not as if we don’t already know this about Hollywood, where we get endless video appeals full of celebrities taking turns telling us how to vote, what to do, and generally that they’re way better than us so we should listen up.

It’s sad that even a comic has to be so careful. For eight years you had to be afraid to criticize Obama. Now you have to be afraid to praise Trump. Hollywood doesn’t tolerate dissent.

Allen endorsed John Kasich last year, but he’s defended Trump supporters against bullying from the press and the entertainment industry in the past. To deaf ears, though, apparently. The onslaught hasn’t stopped.
