This morning police in Minneapolis arrested a CNN crew as on-the-air as they were reporting from the burned down section of city from last night’s riots.

It was a ridiculous show of force against a news crew, when vandals ran wild last night destroying property and burning down buildings.
The Trump campaign called it “outrageous”, blasting both the mayor and governor saying “Mayor Frey & Gov Walz have completely lost control in Minneapolis in a catastrophic display of failed leadership. The city is on fire & they outrageously arrested a CNN crew.”

Others on the right who responded in a similar way:
This is absurd.
This is wrong. https://t.co/AcxLHYKONe— Benny (@bennyjohnson) May 29, 2020
These cops are complete morons. They should/will also be suspended by tomorrow, but they just caused a whole new level of bad PR for the police for no apparent reason. https://t.co/ECq3k3PsKT

The governor has since apologized for the incident:
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz apologizes for the arrest of CNN crew and says he takes “full responsilbity” for it.

Tim Walz: “The issue here is trust. The community that's down there that's terrorized by this. If they see a reporter being arrested, their assumption is that something's going to happen that they don't want to be seen…”

And so that is unacceptable. We will continue to strive to make sure that accessibility is maintained, that not only that, the protection and security and safety of the journalists covering this is a top priority.”
