UPDATE: ANOTHER – Two names have just emerged as considerations to replace Jeff Sessions…

Two names have just emerged this morning from White House sources as possible replacements for Jeff Sessions.

But some wonder if this is legit or if these White House sources are trolling the media.

CNN – President Donald Trump is considering former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to replace fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions, sources familiar with the matter said.

Trump fired Sessions on Wednesday without immediately naming a replacement, instead installing Sessions’ chief of staff Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general.

Christie, a former US attorney, could face similar calls to the ones Sessions faced to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation given his role as a prominent 2016 campaign surrogate for Trump. Christie was initially considered as a contender for the attorney general position during the transition.

Bondi could face significant hurdles to confirmation over the controversy surrounding a $25,000 gift she received from Trump’s foundation during her 2016 re-election campaign.

“There are many people in contention for that position just because there are many qualified people who would like to do it,” Kellyanne Conway told reporters at the White House on Thursday.

Neither Christie, Bondi nor the White House immediately responded to a request for comment.

Honestly, while their names may be on the list, I can’t believe they are at the top of the list or even close to it. After what Trump feels like he’s gone through with Jeff Sessions, the last thing he’s gonna do is pick a controversial person who might end up in the same boat.

And Bondi and that 25,000 gift, which we reported on back in 2016, did looks suspicious back then. I’m not sure if she ever answered that properly.

But like I said, I just don’t think Trump is really considering these two. While I’m sure he wants a Trump loyalist or someone friendly to Trump, I doubt he’d go this far.

UPDATE:

There’s another, perhaps more logical choice for AG that’s being reported by Fox News:

President Trump is considering a retired federal appeals court judge who also served on the California Supreme Court as the next U.S. attorney general following the Wednesday resignation of Jeff Sessions, according to reports.

Janice Rogers Brown, who is African-American and well-liked in conservative circles, served alongside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and spoke to the White House about the job in recent weeks, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Brown was appointed to the 11-member U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., in 2005 by former President George W. Bush. She was one of the most conservative voices on the court.

Democrats blocked her confirmation for two years because of her views, including those criticizing government programs aimed at helping low-income Americans.

She sounds way better than Christie or Bondi. And she at least got an interview, so we’ll see where this goes.
