We’re kinda all over the place on Roy Moore and the allegations leveled against him, but one particular defense is raising eyebrows.
Including the vicarious eyebrows of Father Beck:
Really? So basically claiming St. Joseph was a pedophile also to justify #RoyMoore behavior? Wow. Just wow. https://t.co/rbXeCobTJS

What he’s referring to is an attempt by the Alabama state auditor to excuse Moore’s alleged behavior by analogizing them to Mary and Joseph:
While some Republicans at the national level spoke out against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Thursday in the wake of allegations that he initiated sexual contact with a 14-year-old when he was in his 30s, Republicans from his own state seemed to have a different view — with one citing Jesus’ parents to defend Moore’s alleged behavior.
“Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus,” Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler told the Washington Examiner on Thursday.
I mean. Dude, c’mon. This is theologically ignorant, historically ignorant, and even biologically ignorant.
And as Jonah Goldberg points out, some of these defenders just accept that Moore did it, something Moore hasn’t copped to:
Most fascinating part of this whole thing (in a dark, twisted, ironic way) is how Moore says it’s a lie but his biggest Alabama GOP defenders seem to assume it’s true but just don’t care. He should be furious at them.

I’m kinda tired of the winning.
