Apparently Obama was ‘cautious’ in his first term, not because he wanted to get reelected, but because Fox News, a ’24/7 propaganda masquerading as news’ and right-wing talk radio created a ‘hostile environment for progressive ideas':
ROSE: Why do you think [Obama] was cautious in the first four years?
ROSE: … he is a cautious man?
GORE: I think it has been a pretty hostile environment for progressive ideas.
ROSE: And why is that? That you’re saying it’s a very hostile environment for progressive ideas because of the importance of money in corporations or…
GORE: And Fox News and the right-wing talk radio. And yeah I mean, it’s not that complicated. In Tennessee there’s an old saying if you see a turtle on a fence post you can be pretty sure it didn’t get there by itself. And the fact that we have 24/7 propaganda masquerading as news, it does have an impact.
You can go to Fox Nation and watch the video but the quality is pretty low.
At this point I think, at least for talk radio, if people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh could stop Obama just by creating a “hostile environment for progressive ideas” from their microphones, they would indeed. But it’s clear based on the last election that Fox News and Talk Radio isn’t enough. So while I’m sure some would love to take credit for anything that stops Obama, what Gore is saying just isn’t true.
And Obama has done far more behind the scenes with his EPA on climate change than Al Gore even wants to admit. And regarding Obamacare, well, the left had super majorities needed to pass it. The reason the public option didn’t get in the bill is because of the left, not the right.
But the real truth is that Obama only intended to do so much because he wanted to get reelected. Unfortunately after 2014 that will no longer be a big issue for him. And it’s not gonna be good.
