Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl asks Obama for a PARDON before court-martial trial

Bowe Bergdahl is asking Obama to pardon him before his court-martial trial for deserting his post.

From the Associated Press:

Bowe Bergdahl, the former prisoner of war who’s accused of endangering comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan, is asking President Obama to pardon him before leaving office.

White House and Justice Department officials on Saturday said Bergdahl had submitted copies of the clemency request seeking leniency. If granted by Obama, it would allow Bergdahl to avert a court-martial trial scheduled for April where he faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, the latter of which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

If Obama declined there’s probably little chance Bergdahl would get any consideration from Trump, who said called him a “no-good traitor.” Ralph Peters also called him a “pathetic little creep” in January of last year, while his platoon mates said that he should get life in prison. Bowe was charged with desertion in March of last year, after being released in a very controversial trade to the Taliban for 5 Gitmo prisoners.
