Bernie compares guest worker program to SLAVERY to justify vote against immigration reform

I actually don’t know what to make of this. While answering a question about comprehensive immigration reform, Bernie Sanders makes an excuse for voting against it once by saying it would have lead to “slavery” in a guest worker program.

I’m uneasy about him comparing it to slavery because people voluntarily participate in the guest worker program. On the other hand, we’re the land of the free and we shouldn’t allow any oppression or taking advantage of workers.

Ironically, Sanders’ economic position on immigration is very similar to Trump’s, he just doesn’t believe that deportation is the answer.
