Many are saying that Marco Rubio won the debate last night, so of course CBS This Morning had him on this morning to discuss it. And the interview was going well until one CBS News host, Charlie Rose, decided to attack Rubio.
Referencing the Jeb Bush attack in the debate last night, Rubio had said he hasn’t personally attacked anyone in this debate and he doesn’t intend to. But Rose saw an opening and quickly chimed in that he had called Hillary a liar, suggesting that was a personal attack. But Rubio quickly countered that it wasn’t a personal attack, that he said Hillary lied over Benghazi and that’s a fact.
But it didn’t stop there. For the next three minutes (out of a 5 minute interview) Rose went back and forth with Rubio, intentionally defending Hillary against every Benghazi criticism he leveled, even though the interview was supposed to be about the debate.
It was bizarre to be honest as you could hear the umbrage and disdain in Rose’s voice as he grilled Rubio on this. And it was yet another clear example of how the media is going to go the extra mile to try and defend Hillary against her Republican adversaries, even when their criticism is proven and justified.
But as you’ll see in the interview, Rubio was quite prepared and successfully countered every pathetic defense Rose put up.
