Bill Maher: Democrats Should Oppose Second Amendment. Rep. Keith Ellison: “I Sure Wish They Would”

report this ad

On Friday, admitted gun-owner Bill Maher was discussing the Second Amendment with his Real Time panel when he suggested that Democrats should simply “come out against it.”

Noted genius Rep. Keith Ellison chimes in “I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would.”

If you ask this blogger, the things they say dance around the very notion already. They just don’t put it in so many words.

Transcript via RCP:

BILL MAHER: The problem is that Democrats love guns, too. That when Mitch McConnell did that and held the gun up, here’s what his opponent, the Democrat, tweeted. She said: ‘Someone tell Team Mitch that’s not the way to hold a gun.’ There she is (on the monitor). ‘Kentucky women do it better.’

You see, that’s the problem. Democrats are just as bad.

REP. KEITH ELLISON (D-MN): I don’t think that’s the problem. That’s not the problem.

MAHER: Really?

ELLISON: No, not at all.

MAHER: It’s a problem with me.

SHEILA BAIR: I’m a Republican and I’m for gun control. I just want to be — it’s not monolithic.

ELLISON: Well, I’m for gun control too. Let me just say, I’m for gun control but I don’t think you have to got eliminate ownership of all guns in order to get some common sense gun rules.

BAIR: No, you don’t.

ELLISON: I mean, 27 children were mowed down. Isn’t that enough for us? One of our colleagues, [former Congresswoman] Gabby Giffords, shot in the face.

MAHER: Then why doesn’t your party come out against the Second Amendment? It’s the problem.

ELLISON: I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would.

MAHER: Really? Because I never hear anybody in the Democratic party say that. But they say, ‘I am also a strong supporter.’

ELLISON: You have got to check out the progressive caucus. We have come out very strong for common-sense gun safety rules.

MAHER: Common-sense gun safety is bullshit.

ELLISON: It’s not.

MAHER: What that means —

ELLISON: No, it isn’t.

MAHER: It is.

MAHER: It means there are 3,000 types of guns available in the U.S. and you want to ban about 200 of them.

ELLISON: No, what it means is that if you want to have grandpa’s shotgun, have it, but get rid of those crazy military-style assault weapons.

MAHER: It’s not going to change anything.

ELLISON: It’s certainly — well, you know what? You can’t solve the problem —

MAHER: Most mass shooting —

ELLISON: You can’t solve the problem with just one little thing. You’ve got to make sure that the CDC can issue reports on gun killings and hand gun violence. You’ve got to make sure that we can get rid of assault weapons. You’ve got to close the loophole at gun shows. You’ve got to do a whole range of things to get us into a sane place. We’ve got 12,000 handgun murders a year. It’s got to stop.

Ellison and Maher are two of the biggest assholes you will ever see in your life. These two kiss Barry’s ass every chance they get.

  • conservativenews

Liberals keep losing on this issue, but they never give up. They’re like cock-roaches.

  • fishmonster

Bill Mayer is a godless jack ass.

    • tinlizzieowner

      A life support system for a nose. 😉 😉

      • john

you mean “a noose”? Billy the Oaf deserves it 😉

  • Judges718

I wish they would too. So, I guess I agree with Keith Ellison. Wow…I may be coming down with something.

Currently, we have radical Marxist extremist Democrats from Conservative leaning states masquerading as 2nd Amendment advocates.

The list is too long to type, but it includes Manchin, Pryor, Warner, Kaine, McCaskill, Landrieu just to name a few. They are forever touting their NRA memberships or hunting prowess. It is nauseating.

I would love for them to dispense with the subtrifuge and the pretense and reveal their true agenda. Manchin let the mask slip after the Newtown tragedy with Toomey-Manchin, but only momentarily. He has since returned to the deceit.

The bottom line is thy can pass all the laws they want but they won’t get the majority of gun owners to turn them in. The Second Amendment is our only barrier stopping complete tyranny in this country.

  • Nukeman60

I have three things to say:

    Bill Maher – Ptui

Keith Ellison – Ptui, and ptui

“Dems should oppose the 2nd Amendment” – I think two of them just did. They should voluntarily surrender their weapons, their bodyguards’ weapons, and their right to whine when attacked by thugs.

  • mike3e4r7

So Maher thinks the Demonrats should come out against the 2nd Amendment. What does that mean? Does he want them to support a repeal effort or does he just want them to continue ignoring it without repealing it, like they already do?

  • Ken_H

I agree with Keith and Bill that the Dims should come out against the second amendment and make it a party plank. Maybe we could have a good cleansing of the commie faction that way.

  • mike3e4r7

They’re against the right of ‘the people’ to keep and bear arms, i.e. not themselves, but average folk, pesky people like you and me. who work, obey the law, and can take care of ourselves and who don’t need them one single bit. They could live side by side with us as fellow Americans if they wanted to, and if they did, none of us would have any problem with them. but that’s not good enough for them. No wonder we will never agree with elitists like Maher and Ellison. We know we were born free. They ‘know’ that they were born to rule, and we were born to obey.

  • Laurel

The Constitution has zero meaning to them.

  • I’m surprised they managed to stay on topic. Reading that, I was almost certain one of them was going to tangent off on global warming or fracking.

  • spin43

Please tell me who is actually watching this clown so I can keep my distance. Unplug cable and save some money. Who wants to join me in a massive boycott of cable TV?

  • Yazz55

    I support gun control
…Gun control means using both hands.

  • Citizenright

    Ellison is a moron.

    • notsofastthere

That Muslim moron is writing and voting on laws governing our lives.
He’s not just a moron – he’s a danger to all of us.

  • Lovelives

I read an interesting book over the weekend about the Kulaks. It may seem off topic, but is it? We are the last country with Constitutional gun rights. Little be little they are being taken away, little by little our property rights are being stripped away, little by little class war fair is being created. History it matters.

    • john

FuBar Ack is using 1917 Lenin’s method: “they have it, you don’t – go get it – and the communist paradise will flourish” …./sorry, gotta run to the john to puke/

  • Sentinel

Bill Maher and Keith Ellison – two of the smallest mental midgets of the last decade. Every time they open their mouths, more manure spills out…

    • HCTUB

    • notsofastthere

The real problem with Maher is his large audience and followers who thrive on eating the manure he excretes.
The idiots applaud their own destruction.

      • Sentinel

Well said and so true! Worms are the ultimate in flexibility (see Obama), because they have no spine. And don’t worms consume manure among others things?

  • boats48

Notice to all you progressive types out there that agree with this drivel. It takes a convention of delegates from all of the States, a Constitutional Convention, to change the Constitution. Whether or not you morons agree with it is immaterial!

All I can say is BULL SH?T .

    • MadMadJack

Well I’ll see your BULLSHIT and raise ya one! 😉

  • Sentinel

Keith Ellison is a HARD CORE Muslim-lover (and I believe, a Muslim himself). A guy like this would LOVE for America to be unarmed… wonder why Keith?

    • Crassus

Ellison is indeed a Muslim. When sworn into office he took his oath on a Koran.

      • Sentinel

Yep, that’s right… thanks for jogging my memory. All these scandals and crap are coming so fast and in such great quantity… I’m losing track of some of it. Thanks again!

  • john

Yo, Maher, yo, armed geenyus, just wait when Todd P. makes your dentist very, very rich, you double snout imbecile.
He’ll also make your double snout the quadruple one.

The word “hypocrisy” does not describe enough the perfidy in your both gray cells

  • ryanomaniac

Is Bill gonna be the one to take them? I sure hope so. I have something for him. 40 cal.

    • Conservator1

That’s the problem for these far left extremists; Americans own hundreds of millions of firearms and no one is going to take them away. The Founders wanted the people to have the right to bear arms so they never had to fear an almighty king again after the Revolution War.

Maher is unworthy of a comment, but I never thought I would live to hear a Congressman laugh at the 2nd Ammendment. I guess the Muslim who supports getting rid of it would prefer that Americans only had stones, as is the case in Islamic nations, to protect themselves from an over powering federal monarchy.

      • notsofastthere

Thanks to Obama America is supplying Muslim terrorists with full military weapons. They aren’t using rocks so much anymore:)

      • lawngren

It’s interesting that, according to leftists, we can’t deport 10-20 million illegal aliens, but we could confiscate hundreds of millions of firearms.

        • Conservator1

That’s the lunacy found in the bubble of progressivism where they live. When everyone you associate with lives in same bubble, lunacy becomes reality.

          • lawngren

Yep. They’re living their own dream, unfortunately with no reality.

  • notsofastthere

The Muslim, Keith Ellison, is a proud Progressive who writes our laws. The idiot on the left said sarcastically replace the torch on Lady Liberty with a gun? If it weren’t for guns we wouldn’t have a Statue of Liberty.
The most scary part of the conversation was the MORON AUDIENCE APPLAUDING.

    • MadMadJack

The applause by the audience is what disturbs me. How many of these dumbed down voters have a clue as to what they are wanting and willing to give up. It’s FREEDOM and LIBERTY you ignorant morons.

Oh and as far as the slug Bill Maher I want to meet him in a dark alley some night and discuss the Second Amendment.

  • $3273457

Isn’t it amazing how the Left promotes the idea of abortion being some sacrosanct “Constitutional right.” Any opposition to abortion is said to be unconstitutional. However, nowhere in the Constitution is the word abortion mentioned; not even close! The Left talks about “emanations and penumbras” as they bend and contort the Constitution to fit their desires.

Meanwhile, it is stated very plainly that “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” But that somehow is not clear enough for the Lefties to comprehend!

    • notsofastthere

They understand it, they just don’t approve of it. Progressives believe only THEY should have gun and free speech protection.

  • Robalou01

Sounds like this panel was engaged in an Ethiopian cluster —-!

  • $3273457

The main Leftist argument against the 2nd Amendment is that when the Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution, the term “arms” applied to 18th century weaponry like muskets. Furthermore, since there is no way that the Founders could have ever conceived of the kind of advanced weaponry that would exist today, then it follows that the Second Amendment should still apply only to primitive weaponry like muskets, and not to any other type of modern day firearms.

To illustrate the folly of such thinking, all one has to do is apply it to other Constitutional rights. For instance, let’s see what happens when we apply that same ‘logic’ to the First Amendment: There is no way that the Founders could ever have conceived of the invention of radio or television, much less computers and the internet, so maybe the Freedom of the Press provision of the First Amendment should only apply to the printed word in newspapers. Actually, the Founders could never have foreseen the technological advances in printing, so maybe the Freedom of the Press should only apply to pamphlets printed with 18th century printers. Better yet, perhaps it should apply only to town criers.

    Ridiculous, right?

    • lawngren

Absolutely. And every invention was once just an idea in the mind of some human, so it’s ridiculous to say that the Founders “couldn’t have imagined” the technology we have today. We got here, technologically, because people COULD imagine it.

    • pybop

The 2nd amendment was drafted to enable 18th century citizens to defend itself against an 18th century govt.
The lib solution proposes the citizenry to maintain 18th century weaponry to defend vs a govt armed with 21st century weapons.
      Unmitigated illogical idiocy.

      • $3273457

Even scarier is the fact that they consider the govt to be the good guy in this equation. In their minds, it is the people who must be subdued and restricted!

  • notsofastthere

We’ve come a long way baby. Fifty years ago spewing this crap, Bill Maher wouldn’t have an audience. He’d be ridiculed out of the public eye.

  • fishmonster

Bill Mayer is living proof vindicating the abortion debate. If he had been aborted our America world would be a kinder, gentler and more intelligent country in which to live.

  • Ken

How can the Democrat Representative lie about background checks without blinking an eye….so youre telling me that there are none to this day…incredible.

Bill Maher is just trying to push the Democrats to be more leftist but taunting them and saying they are just like the Republicans. A tactic that is working with the younger generation, who I think would love to be ruled by a tyrant. sad.

  • Leende

I have one question. Who’s gonna take them?

    • Lippenheimer

      Pajama Boy?

  • lawngren

Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that the democrat party leadership is definitely in favor of gun control, and they’re doing their best to force it on us. Strangely enough, this is probably the one issue regarding which there is the greatest division between democrats and their party’s leadership. Or it was until obamacare came along. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, the dem “leaders” certainly know how to do that. (Pardon the pun.)

BAIR: “I just want to be — it’s not monolithic.” The contents of her skull are definitely monolithic. And paleolithic too.

MAHER: “We’ve got 12,000 handgun murders a year.” Actually, per the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report for 2012*, we had 6,193 murders by handgun in the CONUS, but what the heck, just double it because that’s what we would have had if George Bush had been president. And disregard the fact that violent crime has been declining for the last five years. Couldn’t be because criminals are more aware that more citizens are armed more of the time due to the passage of concealed carry laws in almost all states, could it? Nahh, concealed carry is what’s kept the violent crime rate so high. In a democrat part hack’s mind.

  • Lippenheimer

Haven’t the Democrats already come out against the Bill of Rights?

  • I could post every 2nd amendment quote from the founders there is, I could post every gun statistic, every photo. It wouldn’t do anything to change anything about these people. Maher’s a puke. Ellison and everyone in congress who believe like he does need to be removed from office. It’s clear that they have broken their oaths to uphold the Constitution.
The Constitution isn’t made for these people to like or not like, to agree with or not. It’s not some living, breathing set of rules. It’s our law, and the Bill of Rights is the People’s protection against traitorous, tyrannical and ignorant rulers like Ellison and 99 percent of what we have in Washington now. They need to go.

  • Army_Pilot1967

Bill Maher is a certifiable idiot and probably wears a lot of red clothing as an indication of his far, far left political leanings!!!

  • Oscar

I don’t care a whit about anything Maher says.
But if a sitting congressmen actually stated what is attributed to him here, and is not removed and imprisoned, America is over.

  • Time4Offense

I’m tired of our Bill of Rights always being up for a vote!
They’re our rights, and they are non-negotiable. Period.

    • steprock

For sure! Why so glibly give up one of your rights?? You really want to open up that possibility? Which one will we take from the Progs by force? Can we have them pressed into armed service?

  • Bill in Tennessee

    Who is Bill Maher?

  • twmon9816

Bring it on commie scumbags. If we’re going to have another civil war let’s get to it. Until then, stop flapping your lips!

  • ebola131

2013 stat……10,000 + killed by drunk drivers in the US.
We should ban Alcohol, close all bars and restaurants and ban cars.
    ?Did I get everything?
    Stupid Progressives (Marxists)

  • steprock

And that, ladies and gents, is why we even have a second amendment.

But let us also report on lives saved and crimes averted by firearms. No?

Guns are dangerous in the wrong hands, no doubt. That’s why law abiding citizens have submitted to having their rights curtailed, registering guns, and passing exams. By rights, we could all open carry with no further defense than the constitution. Guns aren’t the enemy and neither are we.

  • yallcomebacknow

LOL let these poli-tards keep mouthing about how they like gun control. yup…keep it up. Ol Kieth likes him some islam too. Dont forget that. VOTE IN 2014!!!!!

  • Amedicinewoman

How about removing the 1st amendment, then shut them both up. Just a thought, why be selective? Let’s, remove the 14th, while we are at it…why stop?

  • Carl_N_Brown

    “We got 12,000 handgun murders a year….”

Murder in the United States – 2011
    100% 12,664 Total Homicides
    68% 8,583 Firearm related
Of 8,583 firearms related homicides -2011
    72% 6,220 Handguns
    4% 323 Rifles
    4% 356 Shotguns
    20% 1,700 Unspecified firearm

Just as repeal of prohibition of alcohol led to prohibition of pot to keep all the federal agents busy, looks like giving up the war on drugs will be followed by a war on guns. Why not repeal the idea of controlling criminal behavior by banning things (which the majority use without abuse) and instead focus on criminal behavior.

And the appropriation restrictions AR12 and AR13 at CDC ban using federal funds to lobby Congress for specific legislation AR12 in general and AR13 on gun control specifically; it does not ban pure empirical research.

  • PaulS47

Action trumps rhetoric; declare to the criminal world: I, my car, my office and my home are firearms-free. So when you accost me, a self-declared easy target, I’ll call 911 and wait patiently for someone—with a gun—to show up. That is, unless…

  • coffeeHouse1982

On a related note, I’ve found this to be a steadfast beacon in the fog of illusions conjured up by today’s liberals and progressives:

  • Daniel C. Mathis

They need to stop with the BS and give all the facts. Compare the gang related shooting numbers to their statistics and see how this shakes out They will not confront that issue because they would lose voters.

  • David Dunn

let these cunts come to my house.and try to take
