On Friday, admitted gun-owner Bill Maher was discussing the Second Amendment with his Real Time panel when he suggested that Democrats should simply “come out against it.”
Noted genius Rep. Keith Ellison chimes in “I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would.”
If you ask this blogger, the things they say dance around the very notion already. They just don’t put it in so many words.

BILL MAHER: The problem is that Democrats love guns, too. That when Mitch McConnell did that and held the gun up, here’s what his opponent, the Democrat, tweeted. She said: ‘Someone tell Team Mitch that’s not the way to hold a gun.’ There she is (on the monitor). ‘Kentucky women do it better.’
You see, that’s the problem. Democrats are just as bad.
REP. KEITH ELLISON (D-MN): I don’t think that’s the problem. That’s not the problem.
ELLISON: No, not at all.
MAHER: It’s a problem with me.
SHEILA BAIR: I’m a Republican and I’m for gun control. I just want to be — it’s not monolithic.
ELLISON: Well, I’m for gun control too. Let me just say, I’m for gun control but I don’t think you have to got eliminate ownership of all guns in order to get some common sense gun rules.
BAIR: No, you don’t.
ELLISON: I mean, 27 children were mowed down. Isn’t that enough for us? One of our colleagues, [former Congresswoman] Gabby Giffords, shot in the face.
MAHER: Then why doesn’t your party come out against the Second Amendment? It’s the problem.
ELLISON: I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would.
MAHER: Really? Because I never hear anybody in the Democratic party say that. But they say, ‘I am also a strong supporter.’
ELLISON: You have got to check out the progressive caucus. We have come out very strong for common-sense gun safety rules.
MAHER: Common-sense gun safety is bullshit.
ELLISON: It’s not.
MAHER: What that means —
ELLISON: No, it isn’t.
MAHER: It is.
MAHER: It means there are 3,000 types of guns available in the U.S. and you want to ban about 200 of them.
ELLISON: No, what it means is that if you want to have grandpa’s shotgun, have it, but get rid of those crazy military-style assault weapons.
MAHER: It’s not going to change anything.
ELLISON: It’s certainly — well, you know what? You can’t solve the problem —
MAHER: Most mass shooting —
ELLISON: You can’t solve the problem with just one little thing. You’ve got to make sure that the CDC can issue reports on gun killings and hand gun violence. You’ve got to make sure that we can get rid of assault weapons. You’ve got to close the loophole at gun shows. You’ve got to do a whole range of things to get us into a sane place. We’ve got 12,000 handgun murders a year. It’s got to stop.
