Bill Nye Wants You To Know He Has No Problem With Your Stupid Religion

On MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry show, the panel of guests included Bill Nye the Science Guy, and obviously the topics were science related. The guests discussed the polar vortex, global warming, evolution, and the general practice and acceptance of science as it breaks down along political lines. Predictably, the undertone was “republicans are backward hicks,” but the lip-service being paid was to the idea of coming together on common ground. For example, host Harris-Perry brought up the notion that some people believe in evolution, but also believe that evolution must have been caused or directed by a higher power or intelligent “mover”. She asks Nye if this is any particular problem for science, to which he replies that he really has no problem with it, as long as people believe in the fact of evolution.

The entire segment is presented as if they are saying “look, we know you have religious ideas, but let’s agree on some basic facts and a basic way of thinking about facts so that we have common ground on which to communicate.” Very reasonable sounding, isn’t it? Watch some of the segment below.

Not so reasonable sounding after all. Tittering like school children who just heard someone say “poop” isn’t exactly fairly meeting on common ground now is it? I have *chortle* no problem *snicker* with anyone’s *giggle* religion *nelsonmuntz*.

This is the typical attitude of the enlightened ones when speaking down to the minions of mean spirited deities. They say we can all just get along, but in practice, what they mean is shut up and stand still, we’re trying to point at you and laugh.

And if you still weren’t clear, they end the totally fair let’s find a reasonable and respectful way to discuss these things together segment with this non-mocking and completely respectful comment.

MMmmm, feel that Christians? That’s what respect feels like.
