BillO spars with Beck over Newt being a progressive

I normally don’t side with BillO but I have to say that Beck annoyed me in this interview. What I didn’t like was Beck’s resistance to debate the idea that Teddy Roosevelt’s progressivism was far different than progressivism today, which was BillO’s assertion. It’s fine if Beck disagrees with that but he completely shut BillO down telling him ‘don’t argue with me about progressivism’, as if he’s is the sole expert in the room on the issue. I would have actually enjoyed that debate, honestly. In fact, when Barack Obama tried to compare himself to Teddy Roosevelt the other day Mark Levin himself said that Teddy Roosevelt wouldn’t even recognize what America has become at this point. But Beck was having none of that debate, apparently.

What was clear from the interview is that BillO believes that Newt will act in a more conservative way as president than Beck will concede. And again, given Newt’s record of accomplishment, I agree with BillO. I’m not saying Newt doesn’t have big government streaks, and that’s certainly worth fair criticism. But honestly, Beck is portraying Newt as the progressive devil incarnate and I think he’s just wrong.

In any event, if it comes down to Obama and Newt in the general, I’d vote for Newt 10 times if I could. But for now, I’m still waiting on Perry’s campaign to heat up.

Here’s the interview:
