Boehner steps up, sends letter to Holder over Fast and Furious

It’s about time we get the ball rolling on this. I worry it could just be posturing, but hopefully this will turn into a contempt charge because there is no way Holder’s going to comply:

Washington Examiner – House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and House party leadership confronted Attorney General Eric Holder for not cooperating with the investigation into Operation Fast and Furious in a letter today.

The letter — signed by Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chair Darrell Issa, R-Calif., — increases the likelihood that House Republicans will pursue contempt charges against Holder if he does not turn over documents pertaining to the gunwalking scheme.

“As co-equal branches of the U.S. Government, the relationship between the Legislative and Executive branches must be predicated on honest communications and cannot be clouded by allegations of obstruction,” the House leaders wrote. “If necessary, the House will act to fulfill our Constitutional obligations in the coming weeks.”

Boehner demanded that Holder reveal who planned Operation Fast and Furious, which resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who was shot by a drug smuggler armed with an assault rifle purchased through Fast and Furious.

“[T]wo key questions remain unanswered: first, who on your leadership team was informed of the reckless tactics used in Fast & Furious prior to Agent Terry’s murder; and, second, did your leadership team mislead or misinform Congress in response to a Congressional subpoena?” they asked Holder.

  • Have a police officer personally deliver the letter with a set of handcuffs and we the people will be satisfied

  • OK. Good start, but really, does anyone expect holder to tell the truth?

    • It’s a good question though, and one that should have a very simple answer. “Who planned Operation Fast and Furious”? It HAD to have come from a single person, since we don’t think collectively. THEN, we could go from there, and find out where things went wrong.

I doubt Holder will comply. The Executive Branch is the Sword of the Government. Even if the Supreme Court ORDERED Eric Holder to comply, he’d be responsible for enforcement of that order. There’s NOTHING that can be done to him without him doing it to himself.

      • KenInMontana

There is “the Sword of the Courts”, the US Marshals, although technically a part of the DOJ they are assigned to the Federal Courts primarily to enforce the Court’s orders. Could be some interesting events coming up soon.

      • Heh, he could be impeached, but I won’t hold my breath.

        • I don’t think Eric Holder can be impeached…but I may be wrong.

      • Conservative_Hippie

    • Nah, it would be a miracle for a single truth to come from this racists lips.

  • Joe

    Kabuki Dance

BUT in fact there have been some previous contempt proceedings on both sides

    I hope so !

    • Interesting. 12 cases with only one actually coming to criminal conviction. I sure would love to see holder’s name added to the list with life imprisonment.

  • Joe
  • Threats of an impending contempt charge usually force compliance. Holder is responsible for running guns into mexico, violating ALL KINDS of federal firearms legislation, and thereby facillitating mass murder. A charge of contempt is the last thing he is worried about.

  • Joe

Speaking of Holder – I grabbed this from Scoop’s main page

The FEDS will be confiscating Guitars now!

I hope all the Musicians who have donated $$$ to Obama get screwed by this

AND I hope they shut down some concerts in protest –

Don’t they have more important things to worry about – like REAL CRIMES?

    • Sandra123456

      Beware the Wood Nazis.

By all means let’s shut down the premier guitar maker in America.

Has the country Gibson is BUYING its wood from complaining?

Eric Holder should personally lead the raid when the Feds seize Gibson.

Let’s have an Elian Gonzales type raid to free the wood.

    • Rshill7

I have an electric Gibson and an acoustic Gibson, as well as a Martin guitar. I am now exposing my heineken for a kissin”. DOJ, here it is, kiss it! Oh, look, Boehner is exposing his too, kiss that first.

Ok, I’ll be waiting for some knocks on my door any minute. Plesae wait till after the Preakness runs. I want to see it.

      • NYGino

Great race (sorry that slipped out).

Do yourself a favor Rshill, have a drummer and a bass player over for a while. Just to cover your bottom.

  • 911Infidel

Lets do it. And lets see how the Senate reacts. An election year is a good time to bring charges against Holder. Holder lied. People died. Book ’em Danno.

    • They are running out the clock with the “We are doing a thorough and comprehensive internal investigation and people will be held accountable, Pinkie Swear!” defense and the media is “mostly” playing along so far, but the cracks are in the Dam.

Everyone on both sides knows that this will be “politicized” instantly because the charges are both unbelievable and will come as a total shock to a majority of the country if things come to a head in a way that the media cannot ignore. “Watergate” didn’t kill anyone. Clinton lied, nobody died. Bush “lied” and got re-elected.

Obama covertly ran guns to mexican drug cartels in order to inflate gun crime statistics so they could somehow justify gun-ban laws again. People died. Now we already know congress has been lied to by someone Eric Holder employs. Lied in writing, if that actually matters anymore.

If Holder is held in contempt, the things that are going to come out are going to be so sensational that I can’t come up with an analogy.

      • NYGino

Hard to come up with a good analogy, you’re right. But there could be a great irony. Think of all the people they will need to build all the prisons it will take to house these government criminals. Shovel Ready!

      • 911Infidel

Watergate started with the resignation of the AG. I think Watergate is an appropriate analogy. Only diff is that the media doesn’t have their hate on for Obama like they did for Nixon.

And Bush didn’t lie. WMDs were found. Yellow cake was shipped to Canada. Two 101st troopers were hit with Sarin and mustard gas. 500 barrels of WMD’s were uncovered The rest was shipped to Syria by aircraft and convoy by Saddam in weeks before Gulf War II. That last little bit of info was relayed to a skeptical Congress by the Iraqi Col who knew about it To this day, that testimony has been kept under wraps. Don’t want to despoil the media meme on the topic, don’t ya know.

        • Agreed. This is why I put “Lied” in “scare quotes”. A favorite tool of the tools in the media.

          • 911Infidel

I kind of figured as much. But I decided to address the issue just in case any of the tools read this blog.

      • Well said Donald!

  • hbnolikeee

yo eric now who’s the coward?

  • StrangernFiction

    That’ll learn ’em.

  • Galatiansch2vs20

Who was behind Fast and Furious and why haven’t they been fired from their position and prosecuted already? Justice should have been swift and strong.

  • poljunkie

Speaker Boehner would be forgiven for some of the things he has folded on if he gets this this RIGHT and HOLDER goes DOWN, and takes a chunk of the administration with him.

    • actionsspeaklouder

      Don’t hold your breath . . .

  • NYGino

The Obama Outlaws should have February 21, 1975 embedded in their minds right now. That is the date Attorney General John Mitchell was found guilty of the charges of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and perjury for his role in the Watergate affair which was a more domestic situation than “Fast and Furious” which involved other countries as an integral and initial part of the plan. And, to my knowledge, nobody died as a result.

There seems to be a timing here and it appears to be effective in a lot of ways. Both Issa’s commission and Breitbart are setting the pace. Timing is everything. The crescendo will be magnificent!

    • kong1967

Speaking of Brietbart and timing, you made me think of a possibility. As time goes on more damning evidence comes out about Obama. We still have time to go, so is there worse to come? The best way to make someone self implode is to release little by little watching as they lie about each and every revelation, then pouncing with the undeniable in the end. I hope there’s more.

      • NYGino

kong, that’s what I meant by timing. Little by little, let it digest, add more , add more, let em sweat, let ’em start leaving the sinking ships of the media and unions and the Almighty Halo of the Impostor in chief. Then let ‘er rip.

        • kong1967

Breitbart is a hero even after death.

        • MaxineCA

You got it – drip, drip, drip and then a late Oct. early Nov. BIG surprise too close to the election for them to respond. They’ve got have more than just Rev. Wright. That’s just the appetizer.

This afternoon I pulled out a book I’ve had for awhile “The Manchurian President” (Barack Obama’s ties to communists, socialists and other anti-American extremist). It came out in 2010 and when I read it back then I thought my head would explode.

Hopefully, they will expose this guy for what he really is and we can send them back to Chicago, until we put him on trial for treason!

      • NYGino

Another thought kong, seems like the left has been self destructing on their own recently. Their obvious ploy of one meaningless distraction after another rather than discussing the true problems of our Nation is starting to backfire big time. People are waking up.

        • kong1967

I hope so. It’s pretty obvious they are avoiding the issues.

    • StrangernFiction

Darrell Issa is no Andrew Breitbart. If Eric Holder is ever convicted of anything I’ll be shocked.

  • unclesamnephew

dear scoop, i state it is over due, not about time.

  • aPLWBinAK

increases the likelihood??….I don’t think Holder is shaking in his boots. Too many chances, too many deadlines, too many threats of a contempt charge….you clowns ever hear the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf when you were kids? Yeah, I think Holder’s figured out you are all talk. He should be in a cell.

  • MaxineCA

This whole thing makes me sick. Not only does Agent Terry’s family deserve answers (and let’s not forget Agent Zapata who was killed in MX), but “We the People” deserve answers as well.

Gosh Issa, maybe if you said “pretty please” they might cooperate! (sarc) The DOJ has already said they are not going to provide any more documents so what are you waiting for? Stop threatening and JUST DO IT, already.

    • Rshill7

Time to flash that 3-D race card. Ooooh, it’s glossy and everything, and they know he has it. It also doubles as a get out of jail free card. Just ask the Black Panthers. They intimidated voters AND announced a murder for hire plot (soliticitation to commit) on national TV.

Ask Sharpton too. He still owes his campaign lots of mooolah. Guess what’s happening with him? Nutting. He’s still out and about race-baiting.

      • MaxineCA

Hey, how do I sign up to get one of those fancy, dancy magical race cards? Maybe if I claim to be 1/32 Cherokee, then if I ever get pulled over I can claim racial profiling. Presto…… get the card and you’re above the law! Let’s all sign up.

        • Rshill7

Surely you have some sort of non-white race somewhere back in your lineage. Dig deep sister!

          • NYGino

I had an aunt that would only eat brown rice. Would that count?

            • kong1967

That’s reverse discrimination. The white rice is offended.

              • MaxineCA

Oh dear, you must not have gotten the memo when they forced affirmative action upon the country – The white rice lost it’s rights. Just ask Holder.

                • NYGino

MaxineCA, was that about the same time that Pluto was deemed to be no longer a planet? It gets so confusing.

                • MaxineCA

Hum…. no I think Pluto (the non-planet) was declared under the current Goofy administration. But then again we’ve got Daffy as the VP. Disney must be so proud!

    • kong1967

Posturing. We will know for sure if Romney wins the election and this issue vanishes. Regardless of who is in power, we need answers to this to prevent it from happening again and to prosectute the guilty parties.

  • kong1967

Yet…another letter. I’m not going to give a hoot until they do something with a bite. All talk no show.

  • I don’t expect Holder will comply. He is the Department of Justice and I fully believe that Obama stands behind him.

    • marketcomp

He will comply if the House withholds money from his department! They need to play hardball because Holder is taking them for granted and playing them for fools. Moreover, when this administratin is over everyonr who worked under Holder needs to br fired or let go. If this doesn’t happenRromeny will never be able to implement republican or conservative policies.

  • wodiej

Holder has been stalling for months. Time to take the lid off the cookie jar.

    • E. Lee Zimmerman

It’s a rock-and-a-hard-place situation for the House (though I agree with you entirely). The House can only vote to impeach; the Senate will not enforce it, much less agree with it.

      • MaxineCA

You are correct about the senate, but I say….. Bring it on and have a vote for all of us to see who votes against it in the house AND the senate. No better time than an election year to do this.

        • I still say if dingy harry refuses to enforce it, he needs to be slapped with obstruction of justice charges.

          • MaxineCA

He needs to be slapped alright, for a lot of things. This should get interesting. Let’s see if Boehner has a backbone (putting it in lady like terms).

        • E. Lee Zimmerman

As much as I wanna agree, I’d really hate to see it become an election year issue. You know the media would pound that drum right up until election day. If it were to happen soon, then we could always recover, but the more this goes on without any real movement … I don’t know …

          • MaxineCA

Well you really surprised me, as I thought you would be one of the last people to be so timid about this. It’s not an election year issue, but since it’s front and center……. let’s get to the bottom of the scandal. It’s just good timing, if the GOP will find a backbone and go after it.

I really don’t understand your reference that if were to happen soon that we could recover. Recover from what – Exposing the truth? The MSM is not going to be honest no matter the time line, but who cares.

We’ve got to stop being on the defense and worried about how the MSM will lie about the truth, of course they will. We need to stand strong and go on the offense for a change.

            • E. Lee Zimmerman

Well, sure, I’m one of the first who wants to see these folks given the full length of the rod and staff, but here’s the issue at this point: if the Republicans only vote to impeach Holder, I would imagine that there would be a nightly news special once-a-week from now until Nov. 7th on “why would Republicans do this in an election year?” and NOT on what the Republicans did with a clear statement of the facts. I tend to think moderates take their marching orders from televised [email protected] like that, which is essentially political indoctrination. I think we all know that the mainstream press is gonna lie anyway; I’m only talking about trying to limit the damage to ourselves and our party so close to an election. That’s all.

  • E. Lee Zimmerman

Wow. A whole letter. Did you send flowers too, Mr. Speaker?

  • Who really takes Boner seriously, at this point? I don’t. Couldn’t care less what he has to say, and I’m sure Holder cares even less, than that. If Boner wanted to look like he had any credibility, he should’ve done this day one, when the scandal first came to light. Instead, he’s dilly-dallied just as long as Holder has, avoiding his responsibilities. Liberals like to point to the ‘general welfare clause’ in the Constitution as being one of the passages that gives them carte blanche to do anything. Really, the duties of Congress are laid out plainly, and that clause is clearly explained. Boner has been just as negligent as the other liberals, because he’s done absolutely nothing to protect the People, or effectively represent them. He’s nothing but a career politician that probably couldn’t make it in the Private Sector (which is precisely where his weepy ass should be sent packing to). Boner’s a spineless a jackass and Holder’s a weasel.

    • actionsspeaklouder

Agree 110%. Good post. And, I’d add Mitch McConnell along with Boehner as both being spineless/jackasses.

  • Nukeman60

    ‘Dear Mr. Holder,

I am writing this letter to let you know that I want all the voting populous to be aware that I am serious, I mean it, serious, about telling you that you should do what I want you to do, which you are not doing, so I want it. I’m drawing the line in the sand right now. Please advise me as to whether or not you plan on crossing that line, as it takes many months for me to draw another one. I humbly await your response and I hope I haven’t hurt your feelings in being so harsh this time. It would make me cry to think you were unhappy with me’.

    Your colleague and friend,

    John ‘Teary-eyed’ Boehner

    • MaxineCA

This time we’re really serious just like the last 10 times we were serious, but this time we mean it, until the next time we’re serious and mean it.

      Good one Nukeman!

  • ApplePie101

‘If necessary, the House will act to fulfill our Constitutional obligations in the coming weeks.’ Yes, we’ve noticed that the House has done its darnedest to avoid fulfilling its constitutional obligations.

  • K-Bob

A “Slinky” and an egg’s shell have one thing in common, they are quite sturdy when the forces are directed at them in one very particular way.

Boehner is like that, too. Enough deaths mount up, and he eventually has to stiffen his spine enough to wield his gavel.

I guess eventually the crap under his nose gets so bad he is forced to do something about it. Boehner may have beaten a primary challenge this time, but we need to keep challenging him again and again.

    • NYGino

K-Bob, reminds me of the old cowboy who was showing his donkey to some visitors, telling them that his donkey would reply to any command he was given. The visitors were skeptical and asked to see this. So the cowboy picked up this 6 foot 2×4 and wacked the donkey in the head with it. The visitors were aghast and asked the cowboy why he did that and he told them you had to get his attention first.

      • K-Bob

Of course, if you substitute Boehner for the (ahem) “donkey,” then it ceases to be a joke. Instead it’s just a sad story.

  • stage9

“Oh Yeah?? OH YEAH?? Well….I’m gonna send Holder a LETTER! That’ll show ’em!”

    Can’t mess with you Boehner!

  • NoToTyrants

Boehner steps up, sends letter to Holder over Fast and Furious

    Oh noes…not a letter…that’ll learn ’em.

Just as Joe said earlier in the thread…Kabuki

How about a special prosecutor and congressional impeachment hearings for Eric Holder and anyone else the special prosecutor investigation finds to have been involved? It was good enough for the faux-scandal in the Valerie Plame incident, which resulted in the wrongful imprisonment of Scooter Libby, a man who had no involvement.

This is what infuriates me. The left, while in the minority, have their Kangaroo Courts and partisan media convictions of innocent men like Scooter Libby. Contrast that with the impotent establishment Republicans, who have a majority in the House of Representatives, they send out a letter essential begging Eric Holder to hand over evidence that may incriminate him. Please…Please…Mr. Holder may we trouble you for some documents. Pathetic. Where is the zeal on the Republican side?

    • PVG

About the same “zeal” that drained the swamp of the likes of Waters etc.

      • actionsspeaklouder

Right. Whatever happened to HER trial? Never happened. She would have just gotten a slap on the wrist like Rangle did. Our politicians are so corrupt. So sleazy and arrogant. Most ALL of them make me sick to my stomach. They are thumbing their noses at us right in our faces and think they can get away with it. They have for so long – their corruption means nothing to them. They treat us like crap.

  • brendawatkins

Maybe Boehner is worried about losing his job? He should be! We don’t vote for WIMPS!

    • You vote for them if you live in Ohio.

      • brendawatkins

        I don’t.

  • shagstar

i wonder if that bonehead, rino, was crying at the time of sending the letter?

    • Rshill7

Yep, I’ll bet every sentence was smeared at least a little. It probably looks like a mascara fingerpainting. Holder might think it’s a Rorschach test.

  • Jay

Never expected to see the word ball (or balls) is the same sentence as Boehner.

  • dennisl59

Contest: What perfume scent did Boehner put on the letter?

  • aZjimbo

Why isn’t the GOP pounded this message day after day after day: fire holder now. And don’t stop untils he steps downs.

  • bobemakk

Holder should be dismissed, he lied to Congress.

  • Typical Leftist attitude, the Nation’s top law officer still thinks he’s above the laws he’s supposed to enforce. A true Leftist/Liberal thinks (believes in his heart of hearts) that he doesn’t have to obey anyone, esp. those requests by those that make the laws (Congress). I say it time to ship E. Holder to Gitmo and give him a state sponsored vaca.

  • RKflorida

Point that finger at me and I’ll stick it up your ass.

  • what_is_truth_101

Boehner the R.I.N.O. is only posturing, NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN. The established Republi-can’ts are weak and afraid of both Demo-craps and Con-serva-tives
