BOLTON: It’s hard to imagine a worse time to be cutting defense

John Bolton believes our cuts to defense are a sign of weakness, something he says that our adversaries are reading very carefully and some are even taking advantage of.

With regard to sequestration, Bolton says Obama is in a situation that he has created for himself but it remains clear that he only wants to raise taxes or cut defense, a choice that Bolton says suits Obama just fine.

This should fit every political thread we could have here these days:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

There a lot of senators and reps violating their oaths. They are not defending the Constitution, and they appear to be ignoring domestic enemies, like this President, and their own colleagues, for starters.

Perhaps to some of them we are the domestic enemies. However, we are not violating the Constitution, they are.

At this point nothing will surprise me. Hopefully something surprises them, and they wake up…peacefully.

  • Yeah. It makes perfect sense than we should spend more money on offense than the rest of the world combined. 1 trillion dollars? Seriously? You don’t have to spend that much to keep us safe.

  • Sandra123456

Old political trick threaten to cut essentials not accessories. Locally this means cut teachers, police, and firemen, there is nowhere else to cut. Nationally this means cut the military, Social Security, Medicaid, there is no where else to cut.

But this whole sequester thing is a joke anyway. The cuts in THE RATE OF GROWTH are minor.

Can someone inform the DC thugs that we are onto their game?

    • I Love that picture of the pResident you have for an avatar! 😉 Been meaning to say that for a while… He looks so pResidential, not sitting there… That chair!

      Vote Chair!!! 😉

      • Sandra123456

Thanx. Remember vote early and often.

        • Oh, I’ve gotten my 1024 mail in votes already signed and stamped – just waiting for the next election! I think that enough for one man… Now convince everyone to do that and we might begin to make a small impact on the “Libtard Election Fraud Machine”(tm) 🙂

  • notsofastthere

Boehner and Obama, two of the worlds best negotiators, and best golfing buddies.
Defenders of America to the end! Am I sounding a bit sarcastic here?
China? No problemo….Kerry will take care of that issue.

    • Mary Sieg

That post would be funny if it wasn’t so true. Especially the Kerry comment. He is a joke….wonder if he’s taking that video camera around with him now that he is Sec. of State. He reminds me of John Edwards with that hairdo. Catsup anyone?

  • ImaThinkn

It’s hard to imagine a worse time for Obama to have been re-elected.

    • rsfan1

      ^ So true.

  • c4pfan

Hello, that’s why Obama did this. Why the GOP signed off on it, I will never get.

    • Rshill7

I wonder when, if, and how Obama will implode. His demagoguery is thickening. It was like molasses before. We’ll see shortly if there were some sort of method to the why you refer to.

I’d like to see Obama completely congeal, but into what? A pillar of salt would work.

      • Mary Sieg

I hope I live to see it, Rshill.

Nation building costs lots of money LOL!!!

I am for this country having the best military in the world. That said,
we waste far too much money, while our soldiers bear the brunt of any
cuts. Let’s cut the bureaucracy; let’s look at the unnecessary purchases.
We need to flip flop the priorities.

Speaking of waste, I have a customer in Florida who has to go to one of
the military bases down there every month to provide maintenance on products
that are never used. Makes little sense to him and none to me.

    • toby66

“Nation building costs lots of money”

When it comes to war- we should get in, get out–and stop the nation building. I don’t think we can afford it.
If we had left Afghan after the first Taliban topple- it would have been, about three months. right? Now we’ve been there over 10 years.

our mission has been a mixture of both state-building, which organizes and expands government, and “political independence.” On the government level we’ve promoted a western style government, which they’ve resisted, and on the ground level it’s setup the opportunity for road construction, schools, hospitals and other projects.

At a huge price both monetarily and with large injury because a war is still being fought.

      • poljunkie

        I agree.

If the US feels compelled to help fix up a country AFTER a war- then “throw” some money at it.

Let private contractors bid on the work.

But to keep our military engaged in years and years of “nation building”…wasting our precious resources…when we could be utilizing them here at home….

Typically there is the thought that at the same time they can change the “hearts and minds” at the same time. To some degree, maybe they can change some minds, but in the middle east…in most of the countries, it seems they are always going to have a large amount of hate towards our way of life.

Our hard work, so far in Afghan, have been strenuous. They’ve focused on building a security infrastructure. This infrastructure of military/police was to provide security and help prop up a U.S. friendly government.

Nation-building in Afghanistan has barely appeared, in spite of the initial fall of the Taliban in 2001, because of the ongoing conflict and the general public really doesn’t want us there. They seem to like the tribal customs more than change. They don’t have a big problem with the tribal war lords selling opium or doing other “illegal” things.

Their loyalty is first to their local leaders and their tribe, and their identification.

Afghanistan has never been inhabited by only one ethnic group, but a variety of ethnic groups like the Pashtuns, Hazaras, and Tajiks, as well Iranians. While these ethnic groups differ in language and culture they do share some common characteristics…..Such as hating the Jews, and disliking many Western values.
Religion is a common thread that binds all these people. Islam is followed by almost all Afghans and it dominates much of their personal, political, economic and legal lives.

Their fierce loyalty towards their clan and tribe provides them much of their courage.

  • The USA who defeated the Japanese Empire’s thought of a greater empire… Who helped defeat the Nazis with both blood and arms… Now “infected” to the very core by the very disease we fought against! It’s like a Great Man… who stood for right and for good and for justice… has gotten the cancer of Liberalism… An attack he never expected… Never even thought was possible… An attack upon his very being… from within… And he thinks… I have secured freedom for millions of people worldwide… I have saved nations… Only to be betrayed by the very ones who should stand up for me most… Libtards.

  • Sober_Thinking

Anyone that doesn’t believe Obama is trying to destroy America, simply isn’t paying attention.

And China is absolutely NOT our friend.

I’m amazed that the dumbmasses are STILL asleep.

    • Mary Sieg

Wish everyone else was as sober thinking as you are. They must be smoking the good stuff in DC.

Does anybody on our side get it? This is about 2014, Obama is out to crush the Republican Party, and his 3rd world corrupt state run media will provide all the cover he needs. Obama is beating swords into plowshares.

    • Boehner and the other RINOS are his house monkeys helping him!! And he laughs at them for they are as disgusting to him for their lack of morals and a moral compass as we are! as they are to US!

To be very blunt they are the Kapos in the Concentration Camps! They are the Vichy French working with the Nazis… The “go along to get along”… The Republican Establishment is as much an enemy of the people now that NObama and his minions are!

I feel like a man without a voice. Maybe you do too?

I feel the Republican Party left me… I didn’t leave them! The Rs talk about embracing tax increases for the “rich” and “immigration reform” and moving further left… Surrendering instead of fighting… Telling us that we must simply accept the status quo.

They have capitulated and thrown us God loving Conservative Patriots to the wolves!

If there was ever a time for a NEW THIRD PARTY it is NOW!!! And the GOOD NEWS is there already is one: Constitutional Freedom Party!

“Obama is beating swords into plowshares.”

Correction. Obama is beating swords into EBT cards.

  • Obama has been systematically reducing the effectiveness of our military. He has been attacking it since first becoming president. Periodic budget reductions are only part of the picture. All his luxurious vacations are funded through the DOD budget. I wonder how many other non-military items are funded by DOD. Eliminating DADT and allowing women in combat both had an effect on combat efficiency. The sequestration has only a minor impact on the DOD because it is not really a budget cut but a reduction in spending increases.

  • clockwindingdown

I actually like Mr. Bolton’s idea. Require the POTUS to decide to whom the sequester will be administered. It’s just brilliant, not only does the sequestration happen, POTUS is “the one” choosing, applying, an enforcing…

  • mikeinidaho

Absolutely true! Obama would like nothing less than the collapse of the US economy and chaos at home and abroad as the US is beset by it’s enemies. He and his communist administration drool at the prospect of enslaving the populace and turning this country into North Venezuela.

  • notebene

It doesn’t take a mental wizard to see where the Imposter in Chief is going with this. He is inflicting dhimmitude upon the US by making these cuts and the ignorant libs are handing it to him on a platter. The demoncrats have a far more sinister plan for the US and it involves fascism, not socialism as first believed. Go back and take a simple look at the state of post WWI Germany and it’s financial, political, and social conditions of that nation lead to the rise in power of Hitler. There are eerie parallels there to what is happening in our nation now! Socialism is only the carrot being dangled in front of the ignorant to fall for the perverse changes these “progressives” hope to implement on our nation’s citizens. The push for gun control, further government take over of the education system, and hoarding of ammunition by the federal government are not “new” ideas…they are straight from Hitler’s handbook! Those ignorant in history are doomed to repeat it!

    • Mary Sieg

      Great post…I agree completely.

  • Conniption Fitz

Yep, things are heating up all over the ME, NAfrica and the ‘stans’

    Even in Israel:

    • And that is precisely why they want to cut defense.

      • defense is not being cut. The rate of growth in spending is. They will still spend more on the military year after year. There are no cuts, it’s just propaganda. There ought to be cuts to the Pentagon like $5m in goldfish studies and other crap.

        • Yeah John but in reality those stupid idiocies won’t get cut. When real cuts come down…and they will because it will get the right riled up at their own, it will hurt and by design. A design that has more than one purpose.

Once again Obama is three steps ahead of Republicans. He is maneuvering them into yet another corner.

  • ginobiwan

17 Trillion is 17 Thousand Billion Dollars, One Billion is 1 Thousand Billion Dollars.
This is our debt, we must spend less, we must reduce the size and scope of government, we must do this because without America’s leadership for freedom the lives of all the citizens of the world is dimished.

It is a false argument to say that by reducing these things we have nothing. We can reduce them and still be the strongest nation in the world. We can reduce these things and take care of those who need our help. In order to do that we must choose wisely and no longer take the easy path. If you want … you are part of the problem if you need there is plenty, but we must understand the difference because we can pay for the needs of America but there will never be enough money for the wants of those who covet what others have.

  • This will go down as one of the BIGGEST POLITICAL LIES in modern history. The sequester will pass, the Party’s will regroup, and the next day they’ll vote to undo the sequester when America isn’t looking. The Washington circle jerk, with fresh 2014 footage to run on, where nothing ever changes.

Conservative Girl (@caseykim12 ) said it best: Federal workers will only be given 50 weeks of paid vacation per year instead of 52. An outrage, indeed.

  • Kordane

It’s also hard to imagine Americans who would intentionally want to destroy America, but that is exactly what many Democrats want to do, either consciously or unconsciously. I think that Obama is one of those ‘destroyers’. He hopes that when America is destroyed that a Communist society can rise from its ashes, and if he can do whatever he can do speed up that destruction, then he’ll do it. In the long run he might have deluded himself into thinking that by destroying America he’s actually helping America, because it’ll become his ideal Communist utopia where everything is ‘somehow’ vastly better than it is right now.

      See Leviticus 26:17

    • Mary Sieg

The President is not an American in spirit…he is a muslim, plain and simple. He is the biggest imposter in the history of our great country. And he is “intentionally” doing all of this….as fast as he can. Only 4 years to finish us off. Weapons to Egypt..and they have the only known person connected with the attack in Benghazi…and won’t let us have him or talk to him. And the majority of America is blind to all of it. We must “put our big girl panties on” as we women say…’s time to get tough.

  • Weakness is especially noticed in the Middle East. We didn’t even retaliate against an attack on our consulate in crappy little Libya. How do you think al Qaeda reads this? They see it as the United States pulling out big time from the region and are fighting to gain control of the vacuum that is being created. Always remember that Osama bin Laden noticed how we ran away from Somalia under Bill Clinton, and that lead directly to the first 9/11. They notice these things and are perfectly willing to exploit what they see as our weaknesses. But liberals will never admit that, until the next 9/11 happens.

  • mikeinidaho

While I agree that military weakness is not good for the country, I hasten to add that bankruptcy and total collapse will be worse for the country. Spending MUST be cut EVERYWHERE.
