Early on today El Trumpo discovered that the “Club for Growth” was planning to hit him with some Donald-denying commercials:
The phony Club For Growth, which asked me in writing for $1,000,000 (I said no), is now wanting to do negative ads on me. Total hypocrites!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 6, 2015
And so, he did what the Donald always does:
.@club4growth should release the letter they sent me asking for $1,000,000. When I said no, they came out against me. A scam operation?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2015
Yikes!! Luckily for them, they wouldn’t provide the letter, because that would be terribly embarrassing for…. oh wait.. uh oh…
"@BOB_EWASHINGTON: @realDonaldTrump @club4growth #Trump2016 COVERS PULLED pic.twitter.com/eitFbKZzJl" Here is the ridiculous letter!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2015
Oh boy. That’s awkward.
"@DeanAllen12: @club4growth Club4Growth will do anything for a handout just like every other POLITICIAN running… Pay to Say organization"
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2015
I don’t know what that means but the Donald thought it was clever, so…
"@1ns1de_J9b: @realDonaldTrump @club4growth Borderline extortion scam. They would have used your $1M to extract "donations" from others"
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2015
"@jackson3pack: @realDonaldTrump @BOB_EWASHINGTON @club4growth Wow. So disengenuos in asking for a million dollars! Like its no big deal."
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2015
He had previously called them out on September 1st:
The president of the pathetic Club For Growth came to my office in N.Y.C. and asked for a ridiculous $1,000,000 contribution. I said no way!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 2, 2015
When I intelligently turned down The Club For Growth crazy request for $1,000,000, they got nasty. What a waste of money that would have been
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 2, 2015
He pretty much played a game of rope-a-dope here, since Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin began asking them about it, and they wouldn’t answer:
.@club4growth @nickconfessore Did you ask @realDonaldTrump for a million dollars or not?
— Mark Halperin (@MarkHalperin) September 5, 2015
@MarkHalperin You saw the letter a week after mtg. He said he was interested. He hoped to buy us. We criticized lib policies 4 yes ago.
— CFG + CFG Action (@club4growth) September 5, 2015
.@club4growth Why would you ask someone you seem to have so little respect for to give you 1 million dollars? @realDonaldTrump
— Mark Halperin (@MarkHalperin) September 5, 2015
.@club4growth Instead of evading & lapsing into talking points, why don't you answer my question? @realDonaldTrump
— Mark Halperin (@MarkHalperin) September 5, 2015
And this seems kinda… not very true:
Actually @realDonaldTrump asked for that mtg & then asked for races he could support. Thought he could buy us off. Worst Kind of Politician
— CFG + CFG Action (@club4growth) September 2, 2015
It’s getting durty durty out there, mis amigos!!
So why would they tweet this in 2011:
Tell @realDonaldTrump that he's a liberal.
— CFG + CFG Action (@club4growth) April 18, 2011
Then ask for money later? I dunno.. but it looks like the Donald won this round.
