CBS News senior correspondent John Miller reports that investigators believe Sean Collier was killed because the Tsarnaev brothers needed a second gun for the younger brother. Problem is they couldn’t unholster it:

“The original question is they walked up to that car and appeared they shot the officer in the head unprovoked, that it was an assassination. But why? How did that fit into their plan? The operating theory now in the investigation is they were short one gun. The older brother had a gun. They wanted to get a gun for the younger brother and the fastest and most efficient way they could think of doing it was a surprise attack on a cop, to take his weapon and go. Officer Collier had a locking holster, it’s like a three-way lock. If you don’t know how to remove the gun, you’re not going to get it out. There was apparently an attempt to yank it and they couldn’t get it and left.”

They also report on the conversation between the jihadi brothers and their car-jacked victim:

Chilling new details also came out Monday from the victim who was carjacked during Friday’s rampage.

“They basically said we did the Boston Marathon bombing, but the rest of their conversation is in Russian,” Miller said. ”Now, the carjack victim doesn’t speak much English and he doesn’t speak any Russian. So, he was debriefed very carefully about ‘what else could you hear they said?’

“He said the only word I recognized was Manhattan. That tripped a lot. That’s why we saw last week stopping the trains from Boston to New York, searching the trains, and the NYPD flipped on it’s network of license plate readers at all of the bridges and tunnels coming into the city and loaded all of the license plates associated with these guys, because if they were headed to New York, they wanted to make sure that that tripped before they got in.”

    EVIL – PURE EVIL
I am sorry that this was revealed
Another source of weapons has been revealed
    These bastards were VERY calculating

W T Friday?  This makes little sense.  They killed a cop in order to get a second gun?  How many guns did Muslim Bachelor #2 have on him when they cornered him on the Love Boat?  Also, wasn’t it reported that the exchange of gunfire directly following this incident amounted to something like 200 rounds fired?  Something about this doesn’t smell right …

    • Orangeone

E Lee Zimmerman 200 rounds is nothing given the # of law enforcement.

    • louisiana_mom

E Lee Zimmerman I agree.  The older brother was killed after having a fire fight with police…  but then later the younger brother shot himself in the throat…  where did younger brother get that gun?

  • c4pfan

What they ‘believe’ happened or what happened?  Big difference.

I am not buying everything the media is selling not that I don’t think these yokels wouldn’t commit cold blooded murder but because the media has its own agenda.

Sounds like a security level 3 holster. I have one of those. When I first got it, I put my pistol in it and could’t get it out either. It just shows to go ya’, when all else fails, read the directions.

Rshill7 I’ve never heard of that kind of holster.  Not seen you on recently, was beginning to worry about you, so I’m really glad to see you back. :-)

So let me see if I understand this. These two terrorists DIDN’T follow Massachusetts’ stringent background check system to acquire their firearms?
How in the world am I going to feel safe if criminals won’t even follow simple “homicide authorization laws”?

  • Pyrran

So if Mass hadn’t had such strict gun laws, the guy wouldn’t have been murdered?
    Darn those unintended consequences!

  • JohnSegundo

If you are planning a terrorist bombing that is not a suicide attack, and you want to live to bomb again at some point in the future, how can you be so unprepared when Law Enforcement ID’s and hunts you? They didn’t have an escape plan, they were not both armed, they were panicked. Cowering in a boat in someone’s backyard? That’s how peeping toms and prowlers get caught, not international terrorists. Doesn’t smell right.

    • cabensg

JohnSegundo I don’t doubt they were probably financed in some way but the whole thing has shown they just got evil lucky carrying it out. Just because they were influenced by international terrorist organizations doesn’t mean they helped them plan and carry it out.

Makes no sense to me. Both of those killers could have left Boston as soon as the attack was over. Neither the FBI or local police were looking for them for at least two days, at which time they could have escaped. Why did they stay? Did they really think nobody would catch them? Very strange, unless they were going to hit some more local targets.

  • TycheSD

Why don’t they say that the gun used by Tamerlan Tsarnaev in the shoot-out in Watertown, the only weapon the two brothers had, was the murder weapon of Sean Collier?  I have yet to read that.
