I’m sure we’ll have more to report when details are released about who they suspect and what their motives were.
More from CBS:
Authorities say a pipe bomb exploded in a Jersey Shore town shortly before thousands of runners were due to take part in a charity 5k race being staged in the area.
No injuries were reported in the blast in Seaside Park, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The pipe bomb was in a garbage can when it exploded. Authorities immediately evacuated the boardwalk and beach area and it’s not clear when it will reopen.
Officials say the race participants had been scheduled to pass by the area around the time the blast occurred. But the start of the race had been delayed after an unattended backpack was found in the area.
Obviously, the fear here is that it was a copycat of the Boston Bombing, which was committed on a marathon route. We’ll update with more details as they become available.

It appears that the race was delayed, and the runners would have been right where the bomb exploded had it been on time:
Had this race started on time, runners would have been right around where that can is.

So this is not a prank.

The race benefits MARSOC Marines. You may have never have heard of them, but that’s just how they like it. It’s the most secretive and elite group in the Corps.
