BREAKING: Supreme Court REJECTS Trump appeal for ending DACA protections

The Supreme Court has just ruled that it will not hear a Trump admin appeal of a lower court ruling that keeps Trump from ending the DACA program:

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Trump administration appeal aimed at ending deportation protections for young undocumented immigrants, steering clear for now of the debate over the fate of hundreds of thousands of people.

The justices turned away the administration’s appeal of a ruling that has kept the Obama-era program in place. The rejection buys time for the so-called dreamers even as Congress has been unable to agree on legislation to give them permanent protection.

At first glance this seems unbelievable to me, given that this is as much about appropriate executive power as it is about DACA. But according to CNN the court wants the case to continue in the lower courts, which I believe means it could still be heard at some point in the future.

Here’s more:

According to the NBC video above, Trump’s appeal was a shortcut over the lower courts and the Supreme Court has said it believes the lower courts will move expeditiously on the matter. So if there ends up being a Supreme Court ruling on this case, which I expect there will, it won’t be until next year. Which means the DACA program will more than likely have to continue until then.
