Brit Hume: Clinton’s Enemies vs. Christie’s Retribution

Last night on Special Report, Brit Hume discussed the differences and similiarities between the bridgegate scandal and the recently renewed interest in Hillary Clinton’s enemies list.

BRIT HUME: It is a fact of political life that a politicians’ staff is more likely to be spiteful and unforgiving toward the boss’s rivals and opponents than the boss himself or herself. Seasoned politicians in particular know that today’s opponent could be tomorrow’s ally and it’s wise not to take things personally. Which helps explain why it’s plausible that Chris Christie was not in on his underling’s scheme to tie up traffic in a town governed by a mayor who failed to endorse the boss. The same may apply to the news that broke today that Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign staff kept a meticulous record of the politicians who had endorsed — or not endorsed — her.

We learn this from an excerpt from a forthcoming book entitled “HRC — State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton.” The authors are two reporters from the Washington political dailies, The Hill and Politico.

They tell us that Clinton aides kept track of her endorsements on a color-coded, wall-sized eraser board at headquarters during the campaign and on a spreadsheet since. Congressional Democrats were each assigned a number from one to seven, with the sevens reserved for those whose non-endorsements were considered an outright betrayal. Among the sevens — the late Ted Kennedy, and then Senator, now-Secretary of State, John Kerry.

The purpose of the list, say the authors, was — quote “so that friends could be rewarded and enemies punished.”

The similarities to the Christie case are obvious. So are the differences. One of the differences is in how much you are likely to hear about the Clinton case. Here’s a hint — it’ll be less.

As we have noted here at The Right Scoop, the disparity in how this story is being covered versus how scandals on the left are covered is the most blatant example of this bias to date. It borders on breathtaking.

This is Chris Christie, a potential Presidential candidate but no darling of the conservative right. Imagine how much more vociferous they’ll be with a real conservative. The Obama presidency has done nothing if not increased their fervent rejection of, disdain for, and attacks on republicans. It will become more heavy-handed still.

The next few years are going to be an interesting, and ugly, ride. Buckle up.

No one cares about Chris Christie’s bridge fiasco. Stupid ‘scandal.’

    • FreeManWalking

and the MSM cares less about Hitlery’s Hit list, and even less still about BENGHAZI, or F&F where Americans were slaughtered.

    • tinlizzieowner

      Holder’s ‘Just-Us’ Dept. sure does.
Hillary’s hit list, failure to follow through on prosecuting the New Black Panthers on voter intimidation charges, Fast & Furious, Ft. Hood ‘workplace violence’, NSA, IRS, Benghazi, Red Lines over Syria, not so much. 😉 😉

The gov’t is going to make a big deal out of this so they can distract the American people from the reality that the gov’t is taking more and more of their freedoms away from them on a daily basis.

  • MizMak

It IS breathtaking! But even more so is the blatant bias of this administration! Where’s the investigation into Benghazi, the IRS scandal, etc!? Yet because of a petty act of political gotcha, this administration is investigating the use of SANDY funds?! On what POSSIBLE grounds?! There is SHAMELESS full on abuse of power and criminal negligence going on right before our eyes, yet THIS petty act deserves a full on investigation?! They don’t even pretend to respect the law or justice! I canNOT believe what I am living through…in the United States of America!

Brit the tired old former Dem centrist/moderate. Jeffrey Lord encapsulated it all so well to-day in his article at American Spectator when he pointed out that staffers without principle reflect their bosses who are equally without principle. If your objective is simpley winning, i.e. replacing the other guys at the trough then your tactics will reflect that ‘pragamatic’ approach. In contrast Reagan surrounded himself with people of principle who would never use the ‘ends justify the means’ nasty tactics. Let us call out Christie for what he is through his actions and what he says he wants in Washington DC.

True, and conservatives/ Republicans tend to call out their own on corruption/ slimy tactics, and not protect them. I don’t know that Christie is anything but NJ’s business, but no GOP is going to last long in that notoriously corrupt and gutter politics state. He and his tactics are ideal and perfectly tame in NYC/ Chicago, etc. But also not new to DC pols.

when Hilliar gets nominated, it will be
    “swift boat” on steroids

    • lrjrj

And similarly true – which is important to qualify. 80%+ kerry’s fellow soldiers stood behind the “swift boaters”. Is it hard to believe that Kerry was running for higher office his whole life? That he contacted political contacts to badger military to give him purple hearts? How many seriously wounded vets are windsurfing and walking without a limp? Is it defensible that Kerry could be so unfairly and dishonestly maligned about his service records and so protective of his medical records, which would have redeemed him and destroyed his accusers?
Maligned his fellow vets (lies demonstrably untrue), staged his own personal documentary of heroism in Vietnam, filmed and everything – what kind of narcissist and pol climber does this? No wonder most of the military didn’t want this character-less person to be the commander in chief, and never protested him publicly until that became a real threat. Revealed today, Kerry trying to get Israel to sign a peace deal with “no security, and no peace” with Palistinians, a purely symbolic gesture, and no asset or support for Israel, again from Democrats! What a waste of time he has turned out to be promoting his artificial persona.
