BUH BYE: Dick’s Sporting Goods has now hired lobbyists to push for GUN CONTROL

Dick’s Sporting Goods, who also owns Field and Stream stores (not the magazine), has now hired a lobbyist to push for gun control in Congress.

You can see the actual Lobby Registration form here, but it states that The Glover Park Group LLC is the registrant and Dick’s Sporting Goods (On Behalf of Finsbury LLC) is the client.

To the question of Specific Lobbying Issues, The Glover Park Group responded “Lobbying related to gun control.”

So what may these gun control issues entail? Here’s a quote from Dick’s press release earlier this year:

At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations:

  • Ban assault-style firearms
  • Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms or ammunition to 21
  • Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
  • Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
  • Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
  • Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks

There you go. Not only has Dick’s raised the minimum age to purchase a firearm, banned selling assault-style rifles (and destroyed them!) and banned selling high capacity magazines in their own stores, but they are now lobbying Congress for all of these and more – worst of all, they want to get rid of private sales.

I will never step foot into either a Dick’s Sporting Goods of Field and Stream store again. And I expect many more will do the same, enough to put a big dent into the CEO’s wallet and perhaps even force them to close down a few stores.
