Buzzfeed’s editor Ben Smith tried to defend their publishing of what is widely recognized as a false report of the Russians having information about Trump’s “golden showers” in a Moscow hotel.
Brian Stelter did a good job of grilling him here, but he could have done more.

Smith’s biggest misdirection here is to pretend that CNN was reporting purely on the document he released – they didn’t. Their story expands beyond that document, and that’s why their reporting is decent while his was just for clicks. AND in publishing this crap, they allowed the Trump team to smear CNN with the fake news Buzzfeed published.
