California high school “Arab” name and mascot under attack for being derogatory

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is trying to get a California high school to change its mascot from “The Arab” to something else, claiming it’s offensive and stereotypical. The high school counters that the mascot was chosen back in the 20’s to celebrate date-farming in that area of California, something they learned to do from the Middle East.
